सीताया वनानुगमननिश्चयः · Sita’s Resolve to Accompany Rama to the Forest
Spoken by Sita to RamaSetting: Ayodhya (implied)
अनृतं बत लोकोऽयमज्ञानाद्यदि वक्ष्यति ।
तेजो नास्ति परं रामे तपतीव दिवाकरे ॥४॥
anṛtaṃ bata loko ’yam ajñānād yadi vakṣyati |
tejo nāsti paraṃ rāme tapatīva divākare ||4||
Alas! that will be a falschood if people out of ignorance say that there is no supreme splendour in Rama like the shining Sun.
Do not let ajñāna produce anṛta; recognize true tejas and virtue where it exists.
Supports bhāvanā on Rāma-tejas (divine radiance) and cultivation of right discernment (viveka) over hearsay.
Tejas as an expression of inner sattva and spiritual potency; ignorance (avidyā) veils recognition of true greatness.
General resonance with Upaniṣadic imagery of light/tejas as knowledge and reality (e.g., light as metaphor for Brahman/Ātman), without direct citation.
Madhyāhna (implied by blazing sun imagery, not explicit)
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 1.1 (Rāma’s guṇas and excellence praised); Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 2.1–2.2 (Ayodhya’s esteem for Rāma; public sentiment)
Vedic solar praise traditions (Sūrya/Āditya as tejas; thematic allusion)
Ayodhyākāṇḍa: repeated emphasis on Rāma’s tejas, dharma, and public admiration
Anuṣṭup (śloka)
Solemn
Bright, elevated register; stress on 'tejo' and 'divākare'
Satya (truthfulness) is upheld: one must not misjudge or speak falsely about a righteous person’s greatness; ignorance should not become public ‘truth’.
In the emotional exchange around exile, Sita’s speech (or sentiment) defends Rama’s inherent excellence against any potential public misunderstanding.
Devotion and discernment: Sita recognizes Rama’s inner ‘tejas’ (moral-spiritual radiance) and refuses to let false narratives stand.
