ఈ సంక్షిప్త పౌష్టిక సూక్తం అమావాస్యా రాత్రితో అనుబంధమైన శుభకర చంద్రశక్తి ‘కుహూ’ను ఆహ్వానించి, యజ్ఞం ఫలప్రదంగా నిలవాలని, యజమానికి సమగ్రంగా—ఎంచుకున్న శ్రేష్ఠ సంపదతో కూడిన—ధనసంపత్తిని ‘నియమించి/కేటాయించి’ ప్రసాదించమని ప్రార్థిస్తుంది. ‘జోహవీమి’ అనే పునఃపునః పిలుపుతో, ఆమె హవిస్సును స్వీకరించమని కోరడం ద్వారా, ఈ సూక్తం రాయస్-పోష (సంపదవృద్ధి)ను మరియు బలవంతుడైన వీరపుత్రుని (వీర) దానాన్ని లక్ష్యంగా ఉంచుతుంది. గృహ్య ఆహుతిని కుహూ యొక్క స్వీకారశీల, సంతాన-సమృద్ధిని మోసుకొచ్చే స్వభావంతో సమన్వయం చేయడమే దీని శక్తి; అలా సమృద్ధి మరియు వంశవృద్ధి రెండూ కలిసి స్థిరపడతాయి.

कुहूः। कु॒हूं दे॒वीं सु॒कृतं॑ विद्म॒नाप॑सम॒स्मिन् य॒ज्ञे सु॒हवा॑ जोहवीमि । सा नो॑ र॒यिं वि॒श्ववा॑रं॒ नि यच्छाद् ददा॑तु वी॒रं श॒तदा॑यमु॒क्थ्यऽम्
కుహూ! ఈ యజ్ఞంలో నేను కుహూ దేవిని—సుకృత, కార్యప్రవృత్తి గలది, సుహవా (సులభంగా ఆహ్వానించదగినది)—మళ్లీ మళ్లీ ఆహ్వానిస్తున్నాను. ఆమె మాకు సర్వప్రియమైన, సర్వశ్రేష్ఠమైన ధనాన్ని నియమించి ప్రసాదించుగాక; అలాగే స్తుతికి యోగ్యమైన, శతదాయ (వంద రెట్లు దానమిచ్చే) వరంగా ఒక వీరపుత్రుని దయచేయుగాక.

Kuhū is a lunar goddess associated with the dark/new-moon phase, invoked here as a beneficent power who accepts offerings and turns the sacrifice into prosperity and fertility.
It asks for wealth of every desirable kind (viśvavāra rayi), sustained increase of resources (rāyas-poṣa), and the gift of a vīra—understood as a strong, worthy son or heroic strength for the household.
