Sukta 7.55

Rishi: Vasiṣṭha (presumptive)
Devata: A mighty protective power imaged as the thousand-horned bull (not explicitly named); functional devata is ‘stambhana/śamana’ (stilling).

सहस्रशृङ्गो वृषभो यः समुद्रादुदाचरत् । तेना सहस्येना वयं नि जनान्त्स्वापयामसि ॥

sahásra-śṛṅgo vṛṣabhó yáḥ samudrā́d udā́carat | ténā sahasyèna vayáṁ ní jánān svāpayāmasi ||

O touro de mil chifres que se ergueu das profundezas do oceano — por essa força poderosa fazemos os povos afundarem no sono, num assentar-se silencioso.
