तम आसीत्तमसा गूळ्हमग्रेऽप्रकेतं सलिलं सर्वमा इदम् । तुच्छ्येनाभ्वपिहितं यदासीत्तपसस्तन्महिनाजायतैकम् ॥

Transliteration

táma āsīt támasā gūḷhám ágre ’praketáṃ saliláṃ sárvam ā́ idám | túcchyena ā́bhu ápihitaṃ yád āsīt tápasas tán mahínā́jāyataíkam ||

Translation

No princípio, a treva estava oculta pela treva; tudo isto era água, sem sinal de distinção, não manifesto. O que jazia coberto pelo vazio e pelo inapreensível — pela grandeza do ardor (tapas) nasceu como o Um.
