Sukta 1.3
इन्द्रा याहि चित्रभानो सुता इमे त्वायवः । अण्वीभिस्तना पूतासः ॥
índrā́ yā́hi citrabhāno sutā́ imé tvāyávaḥ | áṇvībhiḥ tánā pūtā́saḥ ||
Ó Indra, vem, ó chama de muitos fulgores! Estas prensagens de Soma são para ti; purificadas pelos finos coadores, ficam puras em toda a sua substância.
Soma-yajña context; invitation verse for Indra to approach the Soma (especially aligned with the morning pressing praxis, though used broadly as an āvāhana in Soma liturgy)
R̥ta as right ordering through purification (pūtāsaḥ) and correct channeling (aṇvī-), descent of the divine force into the prepared vessel (ā yāhi)
Purification through ‘fine strainers’ images the law of right selection that restores order in consciousness.
Citrabhānu suggests truth seen in multiple rays—integral, not one-sided.
From refined essence (Soma) arises luminous power that can shape and reorder life.
Integral psychological interpretation (Aurobindo/Kashyap): Soma as ānanda feeding Indra as illumined mentality.
Morning/forenoon (Indra’s active hour, linked with Soma rites)
Filtering = subtle discernment; light/flame = awakened intelligence; Soma = clarified joy-energy.
Offer the ‘pressed Soma’ as refined joy/intention; invite Indra as the decisive luminous mind to drink and act.
Ajna (illumined mind)
Inhale imagining drawing ‘many rays’ into the forehead center; exhale offering the refined essence upward.
Bright concentration with uplifted energy.
Before meditation, ‘filter’ mental noise: name and release distractions; feel a clear essence remain; then invoke Indra to take up that essence as strength for inner victory.
Gāyatrī with lift on vocative ‘indrā’ and epithet ‘citrabhāno’; maintain clarity on ‘sutā ime’ as offering statement; final pāda settles.
Make ‘yāhi’ a decisive call; keep ‘citrabhāno’ bright and continuous; articulate ‘aṇvībhiḥ’ delicately (it signifies subtlety).
: long ā at end in vocative, : ‘bhā’ long ā; keep ‘tr’ conjunct clean, : glide ‘tvā-ya’ without inserting extra vowel, : retroflex/ṛ-like nuance absent; keep ‘ṇv’ cluster light; long ī
Clear, bright, commanding yet steady.
