Sukta 1.24

Rishi: Śunaḥśepa Ājīgarti (traditionally associated with RV 1.24–1.25 Varuṇa hymns)
Devata: Varuṇa (Āditya), with Sūrya as subordinate cosmic function within Varuṇa’s ṛta-governance
Chandas: Triṣṭubh (11-syllable pādas; standard for many Varuṇa hymns here)

उरुं हि राजा वरुणश्चकार सूर्याय पन्थामन्वेतवा उ । अपदे पादा प्रतिधातवेऽकरुतापवक्ता हृदयाविधश्चित् ॥

urúṃ hí rājā́ váruṇaś cakā́ra sū́ryāya pánthām ánv etávā u | apáde pā́dā práti-dhātave ’karutā́pavaktā́ hṛdayā́vidhaś cit ||

Pois o rei Varuṇa fez para o Sol um amplo caminho para que ele siga o seu curso. Ele firmou apoios onde não há apoio; e é ele quem pode fazer recuar até as forças que trespassam o coração.
