Description of Jambūdvīpa: its regions, mountains, measurements, and cosmic structure

It preserves a standard Purāṇic cosmographic motif—Meru as the central axis-mountain—useful for comparing how different Purāṇas systematize sacred geography and cosmology.
Meru is a cosmological (mythic-geographic) central mountain rather than a single empirically fixed site; scholarship often discusses it as an idealized axis mundi concept, sometimes compared (cautiously) with Himalayan imaginaries in later reception.
The verse is primarily descriptive rather than prescriptive; its philosophical function is to situate the world within an ordered cosmic geography, supporting cultural memory and the conceptual mapping of sacred space.
