Outer meaning

There too the advance was led forward, made manifest for Pūtakratu; like the ordered movement of horses in their troop—energies gathered into a unified formation.

Inner meaning

The verse describes the psyche’s forces being ‘led forward’ (pra-aṇīyata) when the will is purified (pūta-kratu). The ‘horses’ are vital energies; ‘yūthya’ is the disciplined troop-formation: impulses no longer scattered but aligned, moving as one instrument under a clarified intention.

Universal truth

Purified intention makes life-energy coherent. When will is cleansed of mixture, the many drives of life naturally organize into harmonious forward movement.

Themes

inner-discipline, harmonization-of-energies, yajña-as-psychological-process

RV 8.56 (contextual continuity)

Family tradition

Likely Kāṇva transmission-context: emphasis on effective power, ordering of forces, and victory of right movement.

Significance

The anonymous seer-voice here functions as a practical yogic witness: noting the condition for progress—purified will—and the sign of it—energies moving in formation.

Devata
Pūtakratu (epithet applied to a divine power; often Indra/Agni depending on hymn)
Epithets
Pūtakratu, Śuci-kratu (implied: clear-willed)

Indra, Agni, Soma

Cosmic role

Purifies intention and makes the right movement manifest; turns raw force into ordered force.

Inner power

Executive clarity—will aligned with truth, enabling coordinated action.

Where it is used

General soma/yajña setting implied; verse functions as a linking image of ordered energies in the sacrificial movement.
