imé gṛhā́ mayobhúva ūrjáśvantaḥ páyaśvantaḥ | pūrṇā́ vāména tíṣṭhantas té no jānantu āyatáḥ ||
These houses, welfare-breeding, rich in sustaining strength, rich in milk, standing full by gracious good—may they acknowledge us as we draw nigh.
Te domy, niosące pomyślność, bogate w podtrzymującą siłę, bogate w mleko, stojące pełne dzięki łaskawemu dobru - niech nas rozpoznają, gdy się zbliżamy.
Rishi: Atharvanic tradition (house-prosperity seer; transmitted in the Śaunaka domestic corpus)
Devata: Gṛhāḥ (the Houses personified) / domestic prosperity
Chandas: Anuṣṭubh (4 pādas of 8 syllables; domestic charm-meter)
Primary: shanta
Secondary: shringara
Sāyaṇa takes gṛhāḥ as quasi-personal protectors of the householder; mayobhúvaḥ = sukhahetavaḥ. ūrj/páyas denote both literal food-milk and the broader ‘sap’ of prosperity. āyataḥ is glossed as ‘approaching/entering’ (praviśantaḥ), so the mantra functions as an entry-formula securing recognition and non-repulsion by the dwelling’s tutelary power.
To secure a newly entered or newly established house so that it is full of nourishment and recognizes/protects the householders and lawful entrants.
Indirect: paustika nourishment supports ojas and household health through food/milk symbolism.
Environmental psychology of ‘safe, supportive home’; rituals that reduce stress during relocation/return.
paustika
A dwelling—newly built, newly entered, or re-inhabited after absence.
To establish the house as auspicious, full of nourishment and milk-wealth, and to ensure it welcomes/recognizes the rightful householders.
Stuti (praise) + prārthanā (request) to personified house; threshold-acknowledgement formula (jānantv āyataḥ).
Inauspiciousness at thresholds, scarcity, domestic discord, hostile or ‘unknown’ entry.
Food, cattle/milk, household well-being, stable residence.
A house-blessing: the houses are praised as ‘welfare-breeding’, endowed with nourishment (ūrj) and milk (páyas), standing full by gracious good (vāmena). The speaker asks that they recognize the approaching householders.
Home as a living field of care: nourishment is not only food but emotional support and stability. ‘Recognition’ symbolizes belonging—being received by one’s own space, free from alienation, conflict, or inauspiciousness.
Prosperity is relational: spaces flourish when they are filled with sustaining resources and benevolent intent. A home becomes protective when it ‘knows’ and welcomes rightful inhabitants.
Cultivating ‘inner home’: fullness, safety, benevolent orientation (vāma).
Mūlādhāra (security/home)
Slow breathing while mentally repeating ‘pūrṇāḥ’ (full) on exhale, ‘mayo-bhuvaḥ’ (welfare) on inhale.
A house filled with warm light, grain, and milk; the doorway radiates recognition and welcome.
Settled, receptive, grateful.
Before entering home, pause at the threshold, soften gaze, breathe, and recite once with intention of harmony.
Even anuṣṭubh recitation; keep Vedic accents where marked in source traditions—otherwise a steady, level domestic chant is acceptable in app context.
Slight emphasis on epithets (mayo-bhuvaḥ, ūrjasvantaḥ, payasvantaḥ) and on the closing request (jānantv āyataḥ).
Keep long vowels: ūrjā-, pāyas-, Pronounce gṛhāḥ with clear gṛ (vocalic ṛ), Do not blur ‘vāmena’—clear v + long ā
Bright, welcoming, household-friendly.
Often best recited while physically approaching/entering—movement reinforces ‘āyataḥ’ (as we draw nigh).
3
Housewarming, moving in, returning after long travel, restoring harmony after household tension.
At the threshold before entry; after cleaning and lighting a lamp; when inviting guests with goodwill.
Sense of welcome and belonging; intention-setting for abundance, nourishment, and concord.
Avoid using as a substitute for practical household needs (safety, repairs, finances); mantra supports intention and auspicious framing.
