Ghee-laked, with honeyed banks, with surā-waters—filled with milk, with water, with curds: let all these streams come nigh to thee, swelling with honeyed sweetness in the heavenly world; let lotus-pools stand about thee on every side.
Jeziora pełne masła, brzegi miodowe, wody sury, napełnione mlekiem, wodą, maślanką: niech wszystkie te strumienie przybędą do ciebie, pełne miodowej słodyczy w niebiańskim świecie; niech stawy lotosowe otaczają cię zewsząd.
Waters are imagined as lakes of ghee, banks of honey, surā-waters, filled with milk, water, and curds. These ‘streams’ approach the beneficiary in heaven, swelling with honeyed sweetness; lotus-pools stand around on every side.
The mind is reconditioned to expect nurture rather than threat: rich substances (ghṛta, madhu, kṣīra, dadhi) symbolize emotional satiety and safety. The encircling ponds represent healthy boundaries that prevent depletion.
Sustenance is multidimensional—fat, sweetness, fermentation, and pure water: when life has diverse supports, it becomes resilient and ‘sweet’.
To invoke superabundant nourishment and protective encirclement through ‘streams’ of auspicious substances (ghee, honey, milk, curds).

Sāyaṇa reads the compound imagery as superabundance: ghṛta, madhu, milk, curds—classical markers of nourishment and auspiciousness. ‘Suródakāḥ’ is taken either as waters like surā (pleasant/strong) or as ‘excellent waters’. The refrain reiterates the encircling protection and plenitude (puṣkariṇīḥ samantāt).
Anukramaṇī-dependent Atharvanic seer
Paustika invocations of ‘rasa substances’ (ghṛta/madhu/kṣīra/dadhi) to build ojas-like prosperity and protective enclosure.
Shows the Atharvan technique of ‘substance-deification’: foods become cosmic waters; plenty is invoked as a surrounding landscape.
Āpaḥ (Waters) as rasa-bearing prosperity
Waters as matrix for nourishment; they carry the essences that sustain life and merit.
Replenishes vitality (ojas/rasa); cooling-lubricating support for convalescence and longevity.
Encirclement by auspicious fluids wards off ‘dryness’ (poverty, wasting, misfortune).
Opening descriptive cola + repeated refrain (etāstvā…samantāḥ).
Refrain stabilizes performance; opening line may be Jagatī-leaning with heavy compounds.
Rich, slow ‘pouring’ rhythm; compounds create a viscous sonic texture matching ghṛta imagery.
Somatic suggestion of fullness and lubrication; calm prosperity mood.
Set out vessels containing water and, where available, milk/curds/ghee/honey (or symbolic substitutes).
Recite the mantra over the vessels and/or while sprinkling the beneficiary.
Arrange vessels around the beneficiary to enact ‘samantāt’ (all-around).
Conclude with consumption/offering consistent with the viṣṭāriṇ-odana performance.
Kauśika Sūtra: AVŚ 4.34 viṣṭāriṇodana rite; water-vessel and dairy-libation adjuncts (exact numbering varies).
Atharvan priest performs consecration (abhimantraṇa) of liquids and directs sprinkling/encirclement as the operative karman.
Recite over a water vessel mixed symbolically with a drop of ghee/honey (or purely imagined if not used), then sprinkle around the eating area or threshold; optionally offer milk/curd as naivedya.
Before meals; prosperity observances; auspicious mornings.
Householder-led; no specialist required.
Non-ingestive use: chant while preparing breakfast; visualize ‘streams’ entering the home.
ghṛta (ghee); madhu (honey/sweet essence); surā (liquor) / sura-water; kṣīra (milk); dadhi (curds); udaka (water); puṣkariṇī (lotus-pond)
udaka; dhārāḥ; puṣkariṇīḥ
A ‘liquid mandala’ of prosperity: pure water (clarity), milk (origin nourishment), curds (stabilized transformation), ghee (refined essence), honey (sweet outcome), surā (overflow/celebratory plenty) all converge to saturate life with rasa.
Wasting/weakness (general), low vitality (implicit)
Invokes unctuous/sweet/fermented nutritive essences to ‘fill’ the person; supportive to ojas and recovery.
Rasāyana; ghṛta and kṣīra as ojas-promoting; dadhi as strengthening (with context-sensitive use).
Nutritional rehabilitation imagery; guided visualization for appetite/strength recovery.
Beneficiary/household
Superabundant nourishment and sweetness; protective encirclement by ‘streams’ of auspicious substances.
Verbal consecration of substances; imaginal flooding (dhārāḥ) + enclosure (puṣkariṇīḥ samantāḥ).
Hunger, deprivation, inauspicious influences causing ‘dry’ life-conditions.
Food, comfort, longevity, domestic plenty.
Cultivate inner fullness (pūrṇatā) and sweetness (madhu-bhāva).
manipura (nourishment/metabolic fire balanced by unctuousness)
Sama-vṛtti (equal inhale/exhale) while repeating the refrain mentally.
A lake of warm ghee in the navel region, cooling into steady energy; honeyed streams to the heart; lotus ring around the body.
Contented steadiness; reduced scarcity-thinking.
Chant 11 times; end with a sip of water as ‘udaka’ seal and a moment of silence.
Keep compounds (ghṛtahra̍dā, madhu̍kūlāḥ) articulated with steady udātta highlights; refrain chanted uniformly each time.
Do not rush ‘kṣīreṇa pūrṇā’; let ‘pūrṇā’ sound ‘filled’.
Soft, ‘unctuous’ resonance; slightly lower pitch to evoke fullness.
If surā is culturally unsuitable, keep it purely imaginal; the mantra’s efficacy in Atharvan logic can operate through vāc alone.
9 times
Periods of financial strain, recovery after illness, rebuilding household stability, cultivating a sense of ‘enough’.
Before cooking/eating; at the start of a budgeting/planning session to reduce anxiety; during a home shrine water-offering.
Improved mood of sufficiency, steadier appetite/energy (supportive), strengthened household ‘protective’ atmosphere.
If using actual ghee/honey/curds ritually, mind allergies and cleanliness; avoid offering/using alcohol in contexts where it is harmful.
Here the ‘substances’ are dairy and sweet essences rather than plants; they function as concentrated nutrition and auspiciousness. The mantra imagines them as cosmic waters, converting household foods into a heavenly hydrology of plenty.
Dairy and honey imply pastoral wealth; the rite ritualizes access to such resources. Priestly mediation frames material prosperity as ritually produced and protected, reinforcing the authority of Atharvanic expertise.
The luxuriant compound imagery (ghṛta-hrada, madhu-kūla) is stylistically Atharvanic in its concrete prosperity-poetics. RV uses ghṛta/madhu frequently, but AV intensifies them into a protective environment around the person.
A Gopatha-like reading would treat these as bandhu: ghee/honey/milk correspond to ojas-like fullness and divine nourishment. The rite’s efficacy is the establishment of that correspondence through consecrated liquids and encircling placement.
