ਇਹ ਸੋਮ ਪਵਮਾਨ ਸੂਕਤ ਨਿਚੋੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੋਮ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਜ਼, ਗੱਜਦੀਆਂ ਧਾਰਾਂ ਵਜੋਂ ਮਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ—ਰਥਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਉੱਛਲ ਕੇ ਵਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ, ਜੋ ਯਜਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਲ, ਪ੍ਰਚੁਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁੱਧੀਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਪਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੈ: ਛਾਣਨੀ (ਫਿਲਟਰ) ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ ‘ਸਪਸ਼ਟ-ਦਰਸ਼ੀ’ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਧੀ (ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਵਿਚਾਰ) ਨੂੰ ਜਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੋਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਧਨ ਵਾਪਸ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ‘ਤਾਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਧਾਗਾ’—ਜੋ ਯਜਨ-ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੁਭੂਤੀ ਦੀ ਲਗਾਤਾਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ—ਨੂੰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਇਹ ਸੋਮ ਆਸ਼ਵਃ (ਤੀਵ੍ਰ) ਹਨ—ਰਥਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਅੱਗੇ ਵਧਦੇ ਹਨ; ਵਾਜਿਨਃ (ਬਲ-ਸਮ੍ਰਿੱਧੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਹਕ)। ਸਰਗਾਃ (ਧਾਰਾਂ) ਵਜੋਂ ਛੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਗੱਜਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਵਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

एते वाता इवोरवः पर्जन्यस्येव वृष्टयः । अग्नेरिव भ्रमा वृथा ॥
ਇਹ ਪਵਨਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਗੂੰਜ ਨਾਲ ਚਲਦੇ ਹਨ; ਪਰਜਨ੍ਯ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਰਖਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਵਰ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ; ਅਗਨੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਘੁੰਮਦੀਆਂ ਜਵਾਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਚੱਕਰ ਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ—ਜੜਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਖੇਰ ਕੇ, ਬੰਦ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਦ ਕੇ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਇਹ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ, ਵਿਪਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਸੋਮ-ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ—ਦਧ੍ਯਾਸ਼ਿਰ (ਦਹੀਂ-ਮਿਸ਼੍ਰਿਤ) ਹੋ ਕੇ—ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਤਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ; ਦਰਸ਼ਤਾ-ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਚਲ ਕੇ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੇਕ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਦਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

एते पृष्ठानि रोदसोर्विप्रयन्तो व्यानशुः । उतेदमुत्तमं रजः ॥
ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਵਿਪ੍ਰਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਚਲਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਦੋਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ—ਰੋਦਸੀ—ਦੇ ਪਿੱਠਾਂ (ਉੱਚਾਈਆਂ) ਤੱਕ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਤਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਏ ਹਨ; ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਉੱਤਮ ਰਜਃ—ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਮਾਨ ਲੋਕ—ਇਸ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਵਿਸਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

त्वं सोम पणिभ्य आ वसु गव्यानि धारयः । ततं तन्तुमचिक्रदः ॥
ਹੇ ਸੋਮ, ਤੂੰ ਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਗਵ੍ਯਾਨੀ—ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਮਈ ਕਿਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਨ—ਵਾਪਸ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਤਾਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਤੰਤੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ—ਕਰਮ ਦੀ ਅਵਿਛਿੰਨਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਧੀ-ਮਾਰਗ ਦੀ ਲਗਾਤਾਰਤਾ।
