ਇਹ ਸੂਕਤ ਸਮੂਹ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ—ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਰਬਭੌਮ ਆਦਿਤਿਆਂ (ਵਰੁਣ, ਮਿਤ੍ਰ, ਅਰਯਮਨ)—ਦਾ ਆਹਵਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਪਾਸਕ ਅੰਦਰੂਨੀ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਬਲ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਚੁਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ, ਰੱਖਿਆਕਾਰੀ ‘ਸਹਾਇਤਾ’ (ਅਵਃ) ਵਜੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਚੇਤਨਾ, ਨੈਤਿਕ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ, ਅਤੇ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਧੱਕਣ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਉਦਾਰ ਦਿਵ੍ਯ ਸਮੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

देवानामिदवो महत्तदा वृणीमहे वयम् । वृष्णामस्मभ्यमूतये ॥
ਦੇਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਮਹਾਨ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ (ਅਵ) ਅਸੀਂ ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ ਚੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਬਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲਈ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ।

ते नः सन्तु युजः सदा वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा । वृधासश्च प्रचेतसः ॥
ਵਰੁਣ, ਮਿਤ੍ਰ, ਅਰ੍ਯਮਾ—ਵ੍ਰਿਧਿਦਾਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਚੇਤਸ (ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਚੇਤਨਾ ਵਾਲੇ)—ਸਦਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੁਜ (ਜੁੜੇ) ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿਣ।

अति नो विष्पिता पुरु नौभिरपो न पर्षथ । यूयमृतस्य रथ्यः ॥
ਹੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਓ, ਬਹੁਤੀਆਂ ਨੌਕਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿਓ; ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਤ—ਸੱਚ-ਵਿਵਸਥਾ ਦੇ ਰਥ-ਸਾਰਥੀ ਹੋ।

वामं नो अस्त्वर्यमन्वामं वरुण शंस्यम् । वामं ह्यावृणीमहे ॥
ਹੇ ਆਰਯਮਨ, ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਭਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਛਿਤ ਹੋਵੇ; ਹੇ ਵਰੁਣ, ਸਤੁਤਿ-ਯੋਗ ਭਲਾ ਵੀ ਹੋਵੇ। ਹਾਂ, ਉਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਂ ਚੁਣ ਕੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

वामस्य हि प्रचेतस ईशानाशो रिशादसः । नेमादित्या अघस्य यत् ॥
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਚੇਤਸੋ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇੱਛਿਤ ਭਲੇ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੋ, ਹਾਨਿਕਾਰਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ; ਹੇ ਆਦਿਤ੍ਯੋ, ਅਘ (ਪਾਪ) ਦੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਝੁਕਦੇ।

वयमिद्वः सुदानवः क्षियन्तो यान्तो अध्वन्ना । देवा वृधाय हूमहे ॥
ਹੇ ਸੁਦਾਨਵੋ (ਉਦਾਰ ਦਾਤੇਓ), ਅਸੀਂ ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਹੀ—ਕ੍ਸ਼ਿਯੰਤਃ (ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹੋਏ) ਜਾਂ ਅਧ੍ਵੰਨਾ ਯਾਂਤਃ (ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ)—ਹੇ ਦੇਵੋ, ਆਪਣੀ ਵ੍ਰਿਧੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪੁਕਾਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

ਹੇ ਇੰਦਰ, ਅਤੇ ਹੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਜਾਤ੍ਯ (ਸਮਾਨ-ਕੁਲ) ਉੱਤੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅਧਿ (ਉਪਰੋਂ) ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕਰੋ; ਅਤੇ ਹੇ ਮਰੁਤੋ, ਹੇ ਅਸ਼ਵਿਨਾ, ਇੱਥੇ ਆਓ—ਸਾਡੀ ਗਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਸਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ।

प्र भ्रातृत्वं सुदानवोऽध द्विता समान्या । मातुर्गर्भे भरामहे ॥
ਹੇ ਸੁਦਾਨਵੋ, ਅਸੀਂ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿਤ੍ਵ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰ (ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਪਾਲਦੇ ਹਾਂ—ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ, ਸਮਾਨ੍ਯਾ (ਸਾਂਝੀ ਏਕਤਾ) ਵਿੱਚ—ਮਾਤੁਰ੍ਗਰ੍ਭੇ (ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਰਭ ਵਿੱਚ) ਧਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਜਿਵੇਂ, ਇਕੋ ਸੁਰ-ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਢਲਣ ਲਈ।

यूयं हि ष्ठा सुदानव इन्द्रज्येष्ठा अभिद्यवः । अधा चिद्व उत ब्रुवे ॥
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਦਾਨਵ—ਉਦਾਰ ਦਾਤੇ—ਹੋ; ਇੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਜ੍ਯੇਸ਼ਠ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਤਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ, ਤੇਜਸਵੀ ਸਵਰਗ ਵੱਲ ਅਭਿਦ੍ਯਵਃ—ਊਰਧ੍ਵਗਾਮੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਨੂੰ ਧੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ—ਹੋ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਬਚਨ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
