ଅଥର୍ବବେଦର କାଣ୍ଡ ୧୪ ‘ବିବାହ-କାଣ୍ଡ’ ଭାବେ ପରିଚିତ; ଏଠାରେ ପ୍ରସିଦ୍ଧ ବିବାହ-ସୂକ୍ତଗୁଡ଼ିକ ସଂରକ୍ଷିତ, ଯେଉଁମାନେ ସତ୍ୟ ଓ ଋତର ଆଧାରରେ କନ୍ୟାଙ୍କୁ ପିତୃଗୃହରୁ ପତିଗୃହକୁ ଯାତ୍ରା/ସ୍ଥାନାନ୍ତରକୁ ପବିତ୍ର ଓ ଧାର୍ମିକ ଭାବେ ସ୍ଥାପିତ କରେ। ଦୁଇଟି ଦୀର୍ଘ ସୂକ୍ତରେ ଏହା ଏକ ଯାଜ୍ଞିକ ପାଠ୍ୟ-ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶିକା ପରି କାମ କରେ—ଆଶୀର୍ବାଦ, ଯାତ୍ରା-କ୍ରିୟା ଓ ଗୃହସ୍ଥ କର୍ମ, ଏବଂ ଦାମ୍ପତ୍ୟ ସମ୍ମତି ସ୍ଥାପନାକୁ ବିବାହର ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦିଷ୍ଟ ମୁହୂର୍ତ୍ତରେ ପ୍ରୟୋଗଯୋଗ୍ୟ ମନ୍ତ୍ରରୂପେ ଉଚ୍ଚାରଣ କରାଯାଇଛି। ଏହି କାଣ୍ଡ ବିବାହକୁ ସାମାଜିକ ଭାବେ ବୈଧ ଏବଂ ବିଶ୍ୱ-ନିୟମ ଦ୍ୱାରା ସମର୍ଥିତ ଏକ ସଂସ୍ଥା ଭାବେ ଉପସ୍ଥାପନ କରେ।
