Rite of the Varāha Dvādaśī Vow and an Exemplary Narrative on Expiation for Brahmin-Slaying
devaṃ sakumbhaṃ taṃ dattvā hariṃ vārāharūpiṇam | brāhmaṇāya bhaved yaddhi phalaṃ tan me niśāmaya || 41.14 ||
It reflects a common Purāṇic genre feature: cataloguing the ethical and social value of dāna (gift-giving) by specifying recipients (brāhmaṇas) and objects (a deity image/representation with a kumbha), illustrating how ritual charity was framed within Sanskrit literary culture.
No specific geographic location is named in this verse fragment; it focuses on the act of donation and its stated result (phala).
The verse foregrounds the principle that charitable gifting—here, offering a Varāha-form Hari representation along with a kumbha to a brāhmaṇa—is presented as an ethically meaningful act whose consequences (phala) are to be explained and understood.
