Praise of the Sacred Geography of Mathurā
It shows a Purāṇic strategy of translating Vedic-sacrificial prestige (Agniṣṭoma) into tīrtha-based practice, indicating changing ritual economies and accessibility.
The specific site is implied by the surrounding Mathurā-focused context; the verse speaks of ‘that place’ as a bathing location within this sacred geography.
It encourages ritual discipline and ethical self-cultivation through accessible practices (snāna) rather than exclusively costly sacrificial rites.
