Key points: (1) ‘आ यो’ = ā + yaḥ (no internal change)
  • (2) ‘पित्रोररब्ध’ → पित्रोः + अरब्धः (visarga lost before vowel in saṃhitā)
  • (3) ‘न्यध्वरे’ → नि + अध्वरे (i → y glide before vowel)
  • (4) ‘सूरो अर्णः’ → सूरः + अर्णः (final -o in saṃhitā reflects sandhi of -aḥ/-as before vowel; restored as सूरः)
  • (5) ‘पत्मन्नरुशीः’ → पत्मन् + अरुशीः (n + a with doubling in saṃhitā)
  • (6) ‘योनौ तन्वो’ → योनौ + तन्वः (saṃhitā shows -o for -aḥ before voiced sound; restored as तन्वः)

Outer meaning

He who has taken the head-summit of the two Parents and set it in the sacrifice—he, the sun-bright flood. In his course the ruddy, horse-based energies delight in the womb of Ṛta in their embodied forms.

Inner meaning

Agni, becoming solar (sūra arṇaḥ), seizes the ‘head’ (mūrdhānam)—the highest point/essence—of the Two Parents (Heaven and Earth, or mind and life as the two generative bases) and establishes it in the adhvara (the journeying sacrifice). This means the summit-consciousness is brought into the active process of transformation. The ‘ruddy’ powers (aruṣīḥ)—dynamic energies of illumination—are ‘horse-based’ (aśvabudhnāḥ): founded on vital force disciplined for the journey. They rejoice in Ṛta’s womb (ṛtasya yoni): the truth-order becomes the matrix where these energies take right form (tanvaḥ), i.e., become embodied capacities in the sadhaka.

Universal truth

Spiritual realization is not an escape upward alone: the highest principle must be installed within the work of life. Then the life-energies, harnessed and purified, find joy in the truth-order and become stable embodiments of it.

Themes

cosmic order installed in sacrifice, solar Agni, energies rooted in truth, embodied right movement

Other hymns
RV 1.140-141 (Agni symbolism in Aṅgiras style), RV 10.8 (hymn sequence)

Family tradition

If Dīrghatamas/Aṅgiras: emphasis on cosmic symbolism (Heaven-Earth, Ṛta, solar Agni) mapped to inner realization.

Significance

The seer frames a key Vedic yoga: installing the summit (mūrdhan) into the sacrifice so that illumination becomes operative in embodied life.

Devata
Agni (solarized as sūra arṇaḥ)
Epithets
sūra (sun-bright), arṇa (flood of light), ṛtasya-yoni-priya (delighting in Ṛta’s womb; implied)
Related deities
Sūrya, Uṣas (ruddy powers), Aśvins (twin powers/horse symbolism), Mitra-Varuṇa (Ṛta guardians)

Cosmic role

Mediator who links Heaven and Earth and establishes their ‘summit’ in the sacrificial process; carries illumination into embodied formation.

Inner power

Illumined will: transforms prāṇic energies into truth-energies that can embody Ṛta.

Where it is used

Agni invocation within adhvara (general sacrificial setting), especially where Agni is identified with solar force
