Sukta 1.9
इन्द्रेहि मत्स्यन्धसो विश्वेभिः सोमपर्वभिः । महाँ अभिष्टिरोजसा ॥
índrehi matsy ándhaso víśvebhiḥ somapárvabhiḥ | mahā́m abhíṣṭir ójasā ||
Wahai Indra, datanglah; minumlah sedalam-dalamnya sari Soma melalui segala kemuncak dayanya. Kerana engkaulah kuasa maha-besar, pencapaian yang menang, dengan kekuatanmu.
A direct invocation: “O Indra, come; drink the Soma-juice in all its ‘parvans’ (stages/peaks). You are the great victorious attainment by force.”
The seeker calls the illumined Mind (Indra) to descend into the inner yajña. “Drinking Soma” is the Mind taking into itself the Ananda-essence (andhas) at all its ascending intensities (somaparvabhiḥ), so that the consciousness becomes a “mahān abhiṣṭiḥ”—a vast power of conquest/attainment over inner resistance. Indra’s ojas is the steady spiritual force that turns delight into effective victory in the nature.
When higher intelligence consents to receive joy at every rising degree, delight becomes strength; strength becomes attainment. Conscious evolution proceeds by repeated “pressings” of experience into essence, offered upward and received downward as power.
Soma-ritual, Invocation, Inner energization, Victory over obstruction
Kāṇva seer-line noted for Indra-hymns and the psychology of power, joy, and illumination in the early Maṇḍala 1.
Medhātithi (“guest of wisdom/insight”) frames Indra not merely as a ritual recipient but as the inner sovereign who is invited to partake of Soma-Ananda and turn it into victorious attainment (abhiṣṭi).
Breaker of obstructions, establisher of the luminous order; leader of the gods in the battle for light.
Illumined intelligence that receives delight and converts it into courage, clarity, and effective mastery over the nature.
Soma offering/invitation to Indra in Soma-yajña sequences (Indra-soma invocations).

3 pādas of 8 syllables
Compact, urgent, forward-driving cadence suited to invocation and quickened ascent.
Creates a clear ‘call-and-response’ feeling: an inward summons, then a surge of force; stabilizes attention while energizing will.
Soma-yajña context; invitatory verse for Indra’s coming to the Soma pressings (e.g., Agniṣṭoma-related sequences where Indra is summoned to drink)
At Soma pressings (savana contexts), especially where Indra is invited to drink.
Recitation accompanying offering of Soma and invitatory formulas.
Use as an inner invocation before meditation: invite illumined mind to ‘drink’ the distilled joy of practice and convert it into steady strength for the day.
: √i (to go) imperative 2sg; with gives ‘come hither’. : from √mad (to be exhilarated, intoxicated, rejoice) — here ‘drink/exult’ in Soma. : gen. sg. of ándhas- ‘pressed juice, Soma’; semantic bridge to ‘essence/delight’ as nourishing sap. : instr. pl. of viśva- ‘all’. : instr. pl. tatpuruṣa; parvan- ‘joint, node, stage’ (also ‘pressing time’), marking successive intensifications/critical steps. : nom. sg. f.; from abhi-√ṣṭhā/√sti (to stand/advance toward) → ‘approach for victory, conquest/attainment’; used for successful overcoming. : instr. sg. of ojas- ‘vigor, might’; from √uj/ojas semantic field of strength and effective energy.
R̥ta (right order realized through victorious force), Ānanda (delight as sustenance of the gods/powers), Bṛhat (wideness; the ‘great’ being that enables conquest)
Indra’s ‘victorious attainment’ is the restoration of Ṛta by breaking inner disorder and obscurity.
True power arises when delight is aligned with truth, not impulse—Soma becomes illumination rather than intoxication.
Ascent by ‘parvans’ (stages): consciousness grows through graded intensifications of delight and power.
Proto-Vedāntic and integral-yogic reading (Aurobindo/Kashyap): gods as powers of consciousness.

Soma = distilled delight; ‘parvan/peaks’ = successive summits of experience where Ananda becomes more subtle and potent.
Invite the higher mind to assimilate delight and convert it into steady force for inner victory.
ājñā (illumined mind) and maṇipūra (ojas/force)
Moderate ujjāyī or equal breathing (sama-vṛtti) while mentally offering ‘Soma’ on the exhale and receiving Indra’s force on the inhale.
Energized clarity (luminous, victorious composure).
Begin with a brief recollection of joy (Soma), then chant once or thrice; sit and feel the mind ‘drink’ the joy without excitement, letting it become strength (ojas) and wideness (mahān).
Vedic accenting with udatta on key invocatory syllables; observe svarita where marked in saṃhitā (e.g., mat(s)yá/ándhasaḥ regions depend on śākhā).
Keep the call ‘indra ā ihi’ crisp; let the pitch lift on udatta and glide on svarita without over-singing.
indra: clear ‘dr’ cluster (in-dra), ihi: short ‘i’ (i-hi), andhasaḥ: nasal-less ‘an-dha-saḥ’ with visarga audible, somaparvabhiḥ: break as so-ma-par-va-bhiḥ; keep ‘bh’ aspirated, abhiṣṭir: retroflex ‘ṣṭ’ cluster (a-bhi-ṣṭir), ojasā: long ‘ā’ at end, open vowel
Bright, steady, inviting; avoid harshness—strength with clarity.
