Rishi: Atharvanic tradition
Devata: Vaiśvānara (Agni as lord of ṛta’s light)
Mantra 1
Dia, sang penguasa, menyusun segala sesuatu menurut balasan yang sewajarnya; selaras dengan Ṛta ia melepaskan musim-musim, setelah menyeberangkan daya-hayat Yajña hingga ke penyempurnaannya.
Mantra 3
Names and praises Vaiśvānara as ‘ṛtāvān’ and ‘ṛtasya jyotiṣas pati’—lord of the light of Order.
Ajasra gharma—unbroken heat/glow—together with the stabilizing illumination of ṛta.
Agni is portrayed as the controller who orders all things, releases the seasons in harmony with ṛta, and carries yajña’s vitality across to fulfillment.
The hymn culminates in a royal seal: Agni (with Kāma) shines as the single universal sovereign over what is and what will be.
ṛtasya jyotiṣas patim; ajasraṃ gharmaṃ īmahe
ṛtūn ṛt sṛjate; yajñasya vayaḥ uttiran
samrāḍ eko vi rājati
Bhaisajya/Raksha (therapeutic warmth and order; protective fire theology)
Continuous protective warmth and ordered prosperity: removal of chilling affliction and bad luck, restoration of right timing, and assured completion/fruit of rites and undertakings.
Householders maintaining the domestic fire, priests ensuring yajña-completion, and individuals seeking protection from coldness, disorder, or repeated setbacks.
Vaiśvānara is Agni as the universal fire—household and cosmic—identified with the luminous principle that upholds ṛta (right order) and regulates ṛtu (seasonal time). In the hymn’s climax, Agni’s radiance is paired with Kāma as a single sovereign impetus governing past and future outcomes.
To obtain unbroken warmth and protection, to re-align life and ritual with ṛta/ṛtu, and to secure the successful ‘crossing’ (completion) of yajña and its benefits under a single overriding sovereignty.
Evening or dawn near the domestic fire; also appropriate at the start of a rite/undertaking or when coldness/disorder is felt.
Fire (Agni/Vaiśvānara) with ghee offering (ghṛta)
Maintain a steady, clean flame; warm ghee if needed and offer a small āhuti during or after recitation, focusing on ‘ajasra gharma’ and ṛta-alignment.
It asks for ajasra gharma—continuous protective warmth—and for the illuminating order of ṛta that keeps life and ritual from falling into disorder.
Ṛta is right order; ṛtu is right timing (seasons). The hymn treats Agni as the power that aligns timing with order so actions ripen properly and rites succeed.
Recite it facing a steady flame (lamp or fire), optionally offer a little ghee, and set the intention for warmth, steadiness, and the smooth completion of your work or worship.
