Tulsidas (narratorial voice within the Shiva–Parvati dialogue frame)
Listener
Parvati (primary listener of the Bala-kanda narration)
Dasya (with Shanta undertone)
Dasharatha consents to Vishvamitra’s request; Rama and Lakshmana take leave, bow to the sage, and depart; the mothers retreat in sorrowful restraint.
Rule is accountable to dharma and spiritual authority: the king submits to a rishi’s righteous mission; power is exercised through humility, consent, and protection of the vulnerable (the sage’s threatened yajña).
The verse names Rama as the ultimate metaphysical causality (‘kārana karana’) while depicting him in saguna-lila as one who bows, obeys, and departs under a guru’s guidance—showing that the formless Absolute is not negated but expressed through form-bound dharma.
Traditional Manas exegesis reads these lines on two levels at once: (1) the plain narrative of Dasharatha’s royal consent and the princes’ departure with Vishvamitra, and (2) the theological paradox that the ‘Cause of causes’ accepts the role of an obedient son and disciple. The bowing at the rishi’s feet is treated as maryādā (normative decorum): Rama models how divine power is willingly veiled by dharma. Commentators also stress the emotional undertone—maternal separation and royal anxiety—countered by the assurance embedded in epithets like ‘bhaya haran’ and ‘kṛpāsiṁdhu’.
Doha: 13/11 mātrā pattern (each doha couplet following the standard doha cadence).
Anuprāsa (sound-repetition in epithets), Ukti-vaicitrya (layered descriptive naming), and Paradox/Viśeṣokti-like effect (the cosmic cause behaving as a disciplined disciple).
Vishishtadvaita-leaning synthesis: the Supreme remains the cosmic ground while freely entering relational roles (son, disciple) without losing transcendence.
Raga Bhairav (common for grave, maryada-filled Bala-kanda recitation) or Raga Yaman (for a serene, devotional gait).
