हे संक्षिप्त दोन-ऋचांचे सूक्त ज्योतिस्/आदित्य—‘प्रकाश’ या विश्वात्मक, नैतिक व इंद्रियगोचर शक्तीचे—आवाहन करून दृष्टी स्वच्छ व्हावी आणि आचरण ऋत (व्यवस्थित, धर्मसंगत योग्यत्व) याशी अनुरूप व्हावे अशी प्रार्थना करते. ‘प्रकाशा’ला धर्माच्या विधानात प्रतिष्ठित करून आणि उषःकाल–सौरउदयाच्या वेगाशी त्याला जोडून, हे सूक्त रक्षण-उपचारक मंत्र म्हणून कार्य करते: अंधार, संभ्रम व शत्रुत्वकारी प्रभाव दूर करते आणि योग्य वेळी येणारी समृद्धी (विशेषतः पशुधन/धन) वाढवते.

ब्रध्न (तांबूस/अरुणवर्ण) — एकत्र येणाऱ्या उषा — यांनी समवेत होऊन गती जागवली. त्या निर्मळ, एकचित्त, आपल्या-आपल्या काळात, अत्यंत तेजस्वी/उत्साहपूर्ण—‘गो’ (गाय)च्या प्रकट क्षेत्रात.
