śrīvarāha uvāca | śṛṇu devi ca tattvena yan māṁ tvaṁ paripṛcchasi | guhyam anyat pravakṣyāmi madvrataḥ karmaṇo janiḥ ||
Varāha
It exemplifies Purāṇic pedagogy: a deity-authority frames the teaching as tattva (principled truth) and as guhyam (restricted/initiatory knowledge), reflecting layered audiences in manuscript culture.
No location is specified yet; the verse introduces an explanatory section that later anchors the narrative in a particular kṣetra.
It emphasizes attentive listening and inquiry as prerequisites for receiving instruction, presenting knowledge transmission as disciplined and context-sensitive.
