ಈ ಸಂಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತ ಆಥರ್ವಣಿಕ ಸೂಕ್ತವು ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯೂ ಆಕ್ರಮಣವೂ ಹೊಂದಿದ ಮಂತ್ರರೂಪದ ಉಪಾಯವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಎಲ್ಲ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳನ್ನು ಭದ್ರಗೊಳಿಸಿ, ಶತ್ರುಸೈನ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗೊಂದಲಕ್ಕೆ ತಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ನಾಯಕತ್ವವನ್ನು ಮುರಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂದ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಪೂಷಣರನ್ನು ನಾಲ್ಕೂ ಕಡೆಗಳ ದಾರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾವಲು ಕಾಯಲು ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ; ಭಯ ಮತ್ತು ದಿಕ್ಕುತಪ್ಪುವಿಕೆ ಶತ್ರುವಿನ ಮೇಲೆಯೇ ತಿರುಗಿ ಬೀಳುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಸಂಕೇತವಾದ ಗೋಸಂಪತ್ತು ಗಾಯಕನ ಪಾಳೆಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ಮರಳುತ್ತದೆ.

शत्रुनाशनम्। परि॒ व॑र्त्मा॑नि स॒र्वत॒ इन्द्रः॑ पू॒षा च॑ सस्रतुः । मुह्य॑न्त्व॒द्यामूः सेना॑ अ॒मित्रा॑णां परस्त॒राम्
ಶತ್ರುನಾಶನ. ಎಲ್ಲ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳ ಸುತ್ತ ಇಂದ್ರನೂ ಪೂಷನೂ ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಸಂಚರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ; ಇಂದು ಶತ್ರುಗಳ ಸೇನೆಗಳು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಗೊಂದಲಗೊಂಡು, ಅತ್ಯಂತವಾಗಿ ಪರಾಭವಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿ.

मू॒ढा अ॒मित्रा॑श्चरताशी॒र्षाण॑ इ॒वाहयः॑ । तेषां॑ वो अ॒ग्निमू॑ढाना॒मिन्द्रो॑ हन्तु॒ वरं॑वरम्
ಹೇ ಶತ್ರುಗಳೇ, ಮೂಢರಾಗಿ ಅಲೆದಾಡಿರಿ—ಹಾವುಗಳಂತೆ ತಲೆಕೆಳಗಾಗಿ ಧಾವಿಸುವವರಂತೆ. ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಅಗ್ನಿಯಿಂದ ಗೊಂದಲಗೊಂಡವರಲ್ಲಿ, ಇಂದ್ರನು ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠನನ್ನು ಒಂದೊಂದಾಗಿ ಹೊಡೆದುರುಳಿಸಲಿ.

ऐषु॑ नह्य॒ वृषा॒जिनं॑ हरि॒णस्या॒ भियं॑ कृधि । परा॑ङ॒मित्र॒ एष॑त्व॒र्वाची॒ गौरुपे॑षतु
ಈ ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವೃಷಾಜಿನ (ಎತ್ತಿನ ಚರ್ಮ)ವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿರಿ; ಹರಿಣದ ಭಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅದನ್ನು ವಿಧಿಸಿರಿ. ಹೇ ಮಿತ್ರ, ಶತ್ರು ದೂರಕ್ಕೆ ಓಡಿಹೋಗಲಿ; ಗೋವು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಮುಖಮಾಡಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಸೆಳೆದು ಬಂದು ಸೇರಲಿ.
