ಅಥರ್ವವೇದ 6.23 ಒಂದು ಸಂಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಾಮಂತ್ರ. ಇದು ದಿವ್ಯವಾದ ಆಪಃ (ಜಲಗಳನ್ನು) ಸದಾ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ಔಷಧಿಯಾಗಿ—ಹಗಲೂ ರಾತ್ರಿಯೂ ಹರಿಯುವಂತೆ—ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸಿ, ಮಲಿನತೆಯನ್ನು ತೊಳೆದು, ಶಮನಗೊಳಿಸಿ, ಶೀತಲಗೊಳಿಸಿ, ಪುನಃಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ದ್ರವ್ಯವಲ್ಲದೆ, ವಿಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ‘ನೇಯ್ದು ಸೇರಿಸಲಾದ’ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿ, ಅದು ಪೀಡೆಯನ್ನು ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಸಡಿಲಿಸಿ ಹೊರಹಾಕುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸವಿತೃನ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆಯ ಅಧೀನದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಕರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿ, ಜಲಗಳೂ ಔಷಧಿಗಳೂ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮೃದು-ಹಿತಕರವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲಿ ಎಂದು ಆಶಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

अपां भैषज्यम्। स॒स्रुषी॒स्तद॒पसो॒ दिवा॒ नक्तं॑ च स॒स्रुषीः॑ । वरे॑ण्यक्रतुर॒हम॒पो दे॒वीरुप॑ ह्वये
ಅಪಾಂ ಭೈಷಜ್ಯಮ್—ನೀರಿನ ಔಷಧ. ಆ ನೀರುಗಳು ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಹರಿಯುತ್ತವೆ—ಹಗಲೂ ವೇಗವಾಗಿ, ರಾತ್ರಿಯೂ ವೇಗವಾಗಿ. ನಾನು, ವರೇಣ್ಯ ಕ್ರತು (ಆಯ್ದ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪ)ದಿಂದ, ದೇವಿಯರಾದ ಆಪಃಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ओता॒ आपः॑ कर्म॒ण्याऽमु॒ञ्चन्त्वि॒तः प्रणी॑तये । स॒द्यः कृ॑ण्व॒न्त्वेत॑वे
ಕರ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಪಃ ಓತ (ಒಳಗೆ ನೆಯ್ದಂತೆ) ಇವೆ; ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಅವು (ದೋಷ/ರೋಗ)ವನ್ನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಲಿ—ಹೊರಕ್ಕೆ ನಡೆಸಲು. ಅವು ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಅದನ್ನು ಹೊರಟುಹೋಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಲಿ.

दे॒वस्य॑ सवि॒तुः स॒वे कर्म॑ कृण्वन्तु॒ मानु॑षाः । शं नो॑ भवन्त्व॒प ओष॑धीः शि॒वाः
ದೇವ ಸವಿತೃನ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆಯಿಂದ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಲಿ. ಮತ್ತು ಆಪಃ (ಜಲಗಳು) ಹಾಗೂ ಓಷಧೀಃ (ಔಷಧಿ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು) ನಮಗೆ ಶಂ—ಕ್ಷೇಮಕರವಾಗಿಯೂ, ಶಿವಾಃ—ಮಂಗಳಕರವಾಗಿಯೂ, ದಯಾಮಯವಾಗಿಯೂ ಇರಲಿ.
