सरस्वती, हमारे लिए रास्ता बना। तू हिम्मत वाली है, दुश्मनों को हरा। जो भी ताकत जुटा के आता है, इंद्र उसे मारता है।
The poet calls Sarasvatī, ‘with the Maruts, bold,’ to pierce through for them and conquer enemies. Indra is said to strike down a powerful bull among the Śaṇḍikas, who masses his band and swells with force.
Sarasvatī is the flowing power of inspired truth and luminous discernment. ‘Strike through’ (aviḍḍhi) becomes the penetration of right knowledge through confusion and hostile formations. ‘Marutvatī’ indicates the support of dynamic life-forces (Maruts) that energize the movement of illumination. The ‘foes’ are inner resistances—habits, false impulses, and obscuring thoughts. The ‘bull’ of the Śaṇḍikas symbolizes a strong, aggressive ego-force or obstinate vital formation, swelling with power and rallying a herd of impulses; Indra, the illumined mind, smites it—i.e., decisive clarity breaks the dominant resistance.
Illumination must be both clear (Sarasvatī) and forceful (Maruts/Indra). When knowledge flows with courageous energy, even entrenched, organized resistance in the psyche can be struck down.
Sarasvati aid, victory over foes, Indra slays hostile bull
Bhārgava vision often couples Sarasvatī (right word/flow) with Indra (decisive illumination) and Maruts (energetic life-force) for inner victory.
The seer invokes a triple power: inspired flow (Sarasvatī), dynamic energies (Maruts), and luminous decision (Indra) to overcome entrenched opposition.
River of consciousness and speech that carries truth (ṛta) into manifestation; she guides the formation of right thought and right word.
Inspirational clarity that ‘pierces’ through confusion; when joined to Indra, it becomes victorious discrimination and decisive overthrow of falsehood.
Protective/warrior invocations within śrauta recitation; also suitable to rites invoking Sarasvatī for right speech and victory

4 × ~11 syllables
Martial, cutting phrases; strong caesura supports ‘piercing’ imagery
Energizes courage and sharpens discernment; the second half lands like a decisive blow (Indra hanti).
Invoked for victorious inspiration and right speech in conflict; Sarasvatī’s aid in rites requiring clarity, force, and overcoming opposition
Before contests, debates, or when obstacles intensify in the sacrifice
Invocation for piercing protection and conquest of hostile powers
Use when facing mental confusion or entrenched habits: chant to invoke clear flow (Sarasvatī) plus decisive cut (Indra).
saras-vatī 'rich in streams' (saras 'flow, lake' + -vatī possessing) → inspiration as flowing; aviḍḍhi from √vyadh/vidh 'to pierce' (imperative); marut-vatī 'with Maruts' (storm energies); śardha 'troop' (hostile collective); vṛṣabha 'bull' from √vṛṣ 'to rain/sprinkle, be virile' → forceful potency.
vāc as victorious power, collective hostile formations as inner habits
Sarasvatī embodies the current of ṛta in speech and thought; victory is restoration of right order against distortion.
Truth is not passive; it penetrates and conquers false formations.
From the original waters/flow arises articulate consciousness (vāk) that shapes worlds.
Vedic psychology of vāk and illumination; aligns with Upaniṣadic idea of speech as power when rooted in truth.
Flowing river = continuous inspiration; storm-force = energizing prāṇa; thunderbolt-decision = penetrating insight.
Let a ‘river of clear speech/thought’ wash through the mind; then apply decisive discrimination to one dominant resistance.
Viśuddha (speech/truth-flow) and Ājñā (piercing discernment)
Ujjāyī (soft) for steadiness; chant on extended exhale, feeling the sound as a stream cutting a channel through fog.
From scattered agitation to bold, luminous decisiveness
Identify one ‘bull’ formation (a recurring ego-impulse). Invoke Sarasvatī to see it clearly; invoke Indra inwardly to cut its hold; end with silent listening for the new flow of right movement.
Maintain clear udātta rises on sarasvati, aviḍḍhi, jeṣi; strong fall into ‘indraḥ hanti’ for the decisive cadence.
First hemistich: flowing but forceful; second hemistich: heavier emphasis on vṛṣabham and hanti.
Retroflex ṣ in jeṣi; keep ‘ś’ in śatrūn and śardhantam distinct., Cluster dhṛṣatī: aspirate dhṛ-, not dṛ-., In taviṣīyamāṇam, keep long ī and nasalization clear.
Bright, piercing, courageous; avoid softness that blurs consonants
