Le Kāṇḍa 14 de l’Atharvaveda est la Vivāha-kāṇḍa, qui conserve les célèbres hymnes nuptiaux sacralisant le passage de la mariée de la maison paternelle au foyer de l’époux sous l’égide de satya et de ṛta. À travers deux longs sūkta, il fonctionne comme un script rituel : bénédictions, actes processionnels et domestiques, et établissement de la concorde conjugale y sont formulés en mantras à appliquer à des moments précis du mariage. Le kāṇḍa présente le mariage comme une institution socialement légitime et soutenue par l’ordre cosmique.

Because it consists of two extended sūktas that function as marriage liturgy, giving mantras and blessings aligned to wedding actions and the bride’s entry into the husband’s household.
Its dominant purpose is paustika (auspicious/prosperity) and secondarily śāntika (pacificatory): it seeks concord, fertility, protection, and stable household order, not sorcery or medical healing.
Deities linked to guidance, safe passage, and domestic ritual order are prominent—Savitṛ, Pūṣan, the Aśvins, Agni, Soma, and the bridal figure Sūryā—invoked to bless and stabilize the union.
