About This Book

The Mudgala Purana is the foremost Upapurana dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Attributed to the sage Mudgala, it contains 23,134 verses across 9 Skandhas. The text narrates the eight incarnations of Ganesha (Ashtavinayaka), each defeating a specific inner demon: jealousy, pride, delusion, greed, anger, lust, attachment, and ego. Its first Skandha retells the essence of the Ganesha Gita, its fourth sets out the Chaturthi vratas month by month, and its ninth, the Yoga Khanda, teaches the yoga of devotion to Ganesha. Throughout, it gives detailed instructions on vratas, mantras, and worship practices.
