Sukta 95

Mantra 2

आ त्वा शुक्रा अचुच्यवुः सुतास इन्द्र गिर्वणः । पिबा त्वस्यान्धस इन्द्र विश्वासु ते हितम् ॥

To you the bright pressings have flowed, O Indra, lover of the chant. Drink then of this Soma-essence, O Indra, that which is set for you in all our movements—so the luminous force may enter and govern the whole being.

Mantra 3

पिबा सोमं मदाय कमिन्द्र श्येनाभृतं सुतम् । त्वं हि शश्वतीनां पती राजा विशामसि ॥

Drink the Soma for the ecstasy, O Indra—this pressed delight brought by the swift falcon. For you are indeed the enduring lord, the king of the peoples: the sovereign light that rules the many powers in us.

Mantra 4

श्रुधी हवं तिरश्च्या इन्द्र यस्त्वा सपर्यति । सुवीर्यस्य गोमतो रायस्पूर्धि महाँ असि ॥

Hear the call, O Indra, even from the sideward paths—of him who serves you. Fill him with the wealth that is rich in luminous herds, with the abundance of heroic power; for you are the Vast.

Mantra 5

इन्द्र यस्ते नवीयसीं गिरं मन्द्रामजीजनत् । चिकित्विन्मनसं धियं प्रत्नामृतस्य पिप्युषीम् ॥

O Indra, he who has brought forth for you a newer, gladdening word—he fashions a thought with the discerning mind, an ancient inspiration of the Truth (R̥ta) that grows full within.

Mantra 6

तमु ष्टवाम यं गिर इन्द्रमुक्थानि वावृधुः । पुरूण्यस्य पौंस्या सिषासन्तो वनामहे ॥

Him we would praise—Indra whom words and solemn utterances have increased. Seeking to win his many man-powers, we strive to gain them as our possession: the forces of victorious being.

Mantra 7

एतो न्विन्द्रं स्तवाम शुद्धं शुद्धेन साम्ना । शुद्धैरुक्थैर्वावृध्वांसं शुद्ध आशीर्वान्ममत्तु ॥

Come then, let us praise Indra the pure with a pure chant; with pure utterances strengthening him—may the pure, boon-bearing power take delight within us, filling the being with its blessing.

Mantra 8

इन्द्र शुद्धो न आ गहि शुद्धः शुद्धाभिरूतिभिः । शुद्धो रयिं नि धारय शुद्धो ममद्धि सोम्यः ॥

O Indra, pure, come to us with pure helps. Pure, establish in us the plenitude of being; pure, delight us as the Soma-lord—so the clarified force may set our life in right order and joy.

Mantra 9

इन्द्र शुद्धो हि नो रयिं शुद्धो रत्नानि दाशुषे । शुद्धो वृत्राणि जिघ्नसे शुद्धो वाजं सिषाससि ॥

Indra, pure, you are indeed our plenitude; pure, you give the treasures to the giver. Pure, you strike down the obstructing powers; pure, you awaken in us the vāja—plenitude of force and victorious energy.
