Sukta 85

Mantra 1

आ मे हवं नासत्याश्विना गच्छतं युवम् । मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥

Come to my call, O Nāsatyas, O Aśvins, you two: come for the drinking of the honeyed Soma—come to taste the delight that awakens the inner sweetness of being.

Mantra 2

इमं मे स्तोममश्विनेमं मे शृणुतं हवम् । मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥

This my hymn, O Aśvins—this my call, hear it. Come for the drinking of the honeyed Soma, and let the sweetness of delight be made active in us.

Mantra 3

अयं वां कृष्णो अश्विना हवते वाजिनीवसू । मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥

This seeker, Krishna, calls you, O Ashvins—lords of the plenitudes of force—to drink the honey-sweet Soma: the delight that strengthens the inner being.

Mantra 4

शृणुतं जरितुर्हवं कृष्णस्य स्तुवतो नरा । मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥

Hear the call of the singer—of Krishna who praises, O heroic Twins—for the drinking of the honeyed Soma, the delight that makes the being glad and whole.

Mantra 5

छर्दिर्यन्तमदाभ्यं विप्राय स्तुवते नरा । मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥

Come bringing a wide shelter of peace—unassailable—toward the inspired seer who praises, O heroic Twins, for the drinking of the honeyed Soma, the inner delight.

Mantra 6

गच्छतं दाशुषो गृहमित्था स्तुवतो अश्विना । मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥

Go to the house of the giver—thus, of the one who praises, O Ashvins—for the drinking of the honeyed Soma, the delight prepared in the human home of the soul.

Mantra 7

युञ्जाथां रासभं रथे वीड्वङ्गे वृषण्वसू । मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥

Yoke the strong steed to your chariot—firm-limbed, vigorous in power, O mighty lords—for the drinking of the honeyed Soma, the delight that drives the journey of the soul.

Mantra 8

त्रिवन्धुरेण त्रिवृता रथेना यातमश्विना । मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥

Come, O Ashvins, on the three-seated, three-turning chariot—perfectly ordered in its movement—for the drinking of the honeyed Soma, the delight that opens the triple way of the being.

Mantra 9

नू मे गिरो नासत्याश्विना प्रावतं युवम् । मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥

Now uphold my utterances, O Nāsatyas, O Ashvins—do you two foster them forward—for the drinking of the honeyed Soma, the delight that makes the word effective and true.
