Mantra 1

प्र ब्रह्मैतु सदनादृतस्य वि रश्मिभिः ससृजे सूर्यो गाः । वि सानुना पृथिवी सस्र उर्वी पृथु प्रतीकमध्येधे अग्निः ॥

Let the inspired Word go forth from the seat of the Right. With his rays the Sun has released the cows of light. The wide Earth has spread out with her ridges; and on the broad altar-face Agni is kindled in the midst.

Mantra 2

इमां वां मित्रावरुणा सुवृक्तिमिषं न कृण्वे असुरा नवीयः । इनो वामन्यः पदवीरदब्धो जनं च मित्रो यतति ब्रुवाणः ॥

O Mitra and Varuṇa, I fashion for you this well-woven utterance, a freshening impulse like a nourishing draught—new as befits you, O Lords of the inner sovereignty. One of you is the inviolate Path-finder who sets the tracks; and Mitra too, by the power of the word, disciplines and harmonizes the human multitude.

Mantra 3

आ वातस्य ध्रजतो रन्त इत्या अपीपयन्त धेनवो न सूदाः । महो दिवः सदने जायमानोऽचिक्रदद्वृषभः सस्मिन्नूधन् ॥

Toward the streaming banner of the Wind they move with delight; the giving powers swell like milch-cows, rich in sap. Born in the great seat of Heaven, the Bull cries out in that udder—pressing forth the abundance of luminous nourishment.

Mantra 4

गिरा य एता युनजद्धरी त इन्द्र प्रिया सुरथा शूर धायू । प्र यो मन्युं रिरिक्षतो मिनात्या सुक्रतुमर्यमणं ववृत्याम् ॥

By the forming word, whoever yokes for you these two bright powers (your steeds), O Indra—dear and well-charioted, O hero, holder of the fostering energies—he overcomes the wrath that would wound; and he turns us toward Aryaman, the noble power of right will and effective discernment.

Mantra 5

यजन्ते अस्य सख्यं वयश्च नमस्विनः स्व ऋतस्य धामन् । वि पृक्षो बाबधे नृभिः स्तवान इदं नमो रुद्राय प्रेष्ठम् ॥

The doers of adoration worship his comradeship and his vital increase, in the own home of ṛta. The strengthening force spreads wide when praised by men: this is the dearest homage to Rudra—the power that makes the being intensely awake.

Mantra 6

आ यत्साकं यशसो वावशानाः सरस्वती सप्तथी सिन्धुमाता । याः सुष्वयन्त सुदुघाः सुधारा अभि स्वेन पयसा पीप्यानाः ॥

When, together, the glorious ones press forward—Sarasvatī of sevenfold paths, mother of the rivers—those streams, good-milking and of fair flow, swell with their own milk: they nourish the being with self-born abundance of light.

Mantra 7

उत त्ये नो मरुतो मन्दसाना धियं तोकं च वाजिनोऽवन्तु । मा नः परि ख्यदक्षरा चरन्त्यवीवृधन्युज्यं ते रयिं नः ॥

And may those Maruts, rejoicing in their own rapture, protect for us the inspired thought and the child-soul and the plenitude of force. Let not the wandering, imperishable (power) look past us and abandon us; rather, may it increase for us your yoked wealth—your spiritual fullness that moves with the divine team.

Mantra 8

प्र वो महीमरमतिं कृणुध्वं प्र पूषणं विदथ्यं न वीरम् । भगं धियोऽवितारं नो अस्याः सातौ वाजं रातिषाचं पुरंधिम् ॥

Bring forward for yourselves the great Aramati—wide and steadfast in right-mindedness; bring forward Pūṣan, the hero of the gatherings, the finder and increaser of the way. And establish for us Bhaga, the protector of our thought in this winning; grant the vāja, the plenitude that accompanies the gift, and Purandhi, the power of rich plenishing.

Mantra 9

अच्छायं वो मरुतः श्लोक एत्वच्छा विष्णुं निषिक्तपामवोभिः । उत प्रजायै गृणते वयो धुर्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

Let this chant go straight to you, O Maruts; and straight to Viṣṇu, sprinkled with waters, by your helps. And for the offspring of the singer, bestow the widening life-force; you—guard us always with your harmonies of well-being.
