Sukta 26

Mantra 1

प्र ह्यच्छा मनीषा स्पार्हा यन्ति नियुतः । प्र दस्रा नियुद्रथः पूषा अविष्टु माहिनः ॥

Forward indeed, toward the goal, the desirable inspirations go yoked and ordered. Forward move the wondrous powers with their yoked car; may Pūṣan, the mighty, lead us and guard the journey.

Mantra 2

यस्य त्यन्महित्वं वाताप्यमयं जनः । विप्र आ वंसद्धीतिभिश्चिकेत सुष्टुतीनाम् ॥

He whose greatness is like the wind’s wide-moving force— this people draws near to him; the inspired seer comes by his illumined thoughts and becomes conscious of the right hymns of praise.

Mantra 3

स वेद सुष्टुतीनामिन्दुर्न पूषा वृषा । अभि प्सुरः प्रुषायति व्रजं न आ प्रुषायति ॥

He knows the right praises; as Indu, the illumining drop, he is like Pūṣan the Nourisher, a bull of force. He rains his shining abundance upon the seeker, and he rains it into our fold of gathered powers.

Mantra 4

मंसीमहि त्वा वयमस्माकं देव पूषन् । मतीनां च साधनं विप्राणां चाधवम् ॥

We would form you in our thought, O Pūṣan divine, as ours—accomplisher of our inspirations and the pressing-force of the seers’ vision.

Mantra 5

प्रत्यर्धिर्यज्ञानामश्वहयो रथानाम् । ऋषिः स यो मनुर्हितो विप्रस्य यावयत्सखः ॥

He is the counterpoise and right share of the sacrifices, the swift mover of chariots by the horses of force; he is the seer, the friend who is set for man, who drives away what obstructs the illumined one.

Mantra 6

आधीषमाणायाः पतिः शुचायाश्च शुचस्य च । वासोवायोऽवीनामा वासांसि मर्मृजत् ॥

Lord of the aspiring thought, of the bright and of brightness itself, he—the weaver of garments—cleanses and sets in order the coverings of the powers within us.

Mantra 7

इनो वाजानां पतिरिनः पुष्टीनां सखा । प्र श्मश्रु हर्यतो दूधोद्वि वृथा यो अदाभ्यः ॥

He is the energizer, lord of plenitudes, the energizer and friend of all increase; he shakes out the golden growth in due measure—he who cannot be deceived.

Mantra 8

आ ते रथस्य पूषन्नजा धुरं ववृत्युः । विश्वस्यार्थिनः सखा सनोजा अनपच्युतः ॥

To your chariot, O Pūṣan, the goats have turned the yoke; you are the friend of every seeker of the goal, born with us from of old, never falling away from the right leading.

Mantra 9

अस्माकमूर्जा रथं पूषा अविष्टु माहिनः । भुवद्वाजानां वृध इमं नः शृणवद्धवम् ॥

May Pūṣan, mighty, protect our chariot of living energy; may he become the increaser of our plenitudes of force, and hear this our call.
