This hymn invokes the dual divinity Indra-and-Agni as the unmatched pair who grant right insight, victory, and a fair share of wealth. The poet invites them to the sacrifice to sit on the barhis and rejoice in Soma, recalling their famed Vṛtra-slaying power. It closes with a broad benediction, asking other sustaining deities—Mitra-Varuṇa, Aditi, Sindhu, Earth, and Heaven—to enlarge and uphold the worshiper.

Mantra 1

वि ह्यख्यं मनसा वस्य इच्छन्निन्द्राग्नी ज्ञास उत वा सजातान् । नान्या युवत्प्रमतिरस्ति मह्यं स वां धियं वाजयन्तीमतक्षम् ॥

I have clearly seen with the mind, seeking the more excellent, O Indra and Agni, the peoples and even the kindred-born. No other understanding is for me like you two; therefore I have fashioned for you a thought that brings the plenitude of force.

Mantra 2

अश्रवं हि भूरिदावत्तरा वां विजामातुरुत वा घा स्यालात् । अथा सोमस्य प्रयती युवभ्यामिन्द्राग्नी स्तोमं जनयामि नव्यम् ॥

For I have heard that you two are more lavish givers than a son-in-law or even a brother-in-law. Therefore, with the forward movement of Soma, for you two, O Indra and Agni, I bring forth a new hymn of affirmation.

Mantra 3

मा च्छेद्म रश्मीँरिति नाधमानाः पितॄणां शक्तीरनुयच्छमानाः । इन्द्राग्निभ्यां कं वृषणो मदन्ति ता ह्यद्री धिषणाया उपस्थे ॥

Let us not cut the rays, so crying in our need, as we pursue the powers of the Fathers. For Indra and Agni, by whom do the strong ones grow intoxicated? Those pressing-stones are indeed in the lap of Dhīṣaṇā (the inspired discerning power).

Mantra 4

युवाभ्यां देवी धिषणा मदायेन्द्राग्नी सोममुशती सुनोति । तावश्विना भद्रहस्ता सुपाणी आ धावतं मधुना पृङ्क्तमप्सु ॥

For you two, O Indra and Agni, the goddess Dhīṣaṇā, desiring, presses Soma for the ecstasy. And you two Aśvins, with auspicious hands and beautiful palms, run here and blend it with honey in the waters.

Mantra 5

युवामिन्द्राग्नी वसुनो विभागे तवस्तमा शुश्रव वृत्रहत्ये । तावासद्या बर्हिषि यज्ञे अस्मिन्प्र चर्षणी मादयेथां सुतस्य ॥

You two, O Indra and Agni, are the mightiest in the distribution of the riches; I have heard of you in the slaying of Vṛtra. Sit down on the sacred grass in this sacrifice, O leaders of men, and take delight in the pressed Soma.

Mantra 6

प्र चर्षणिभ्यः पृतनाहवेषु प्र पृथिव्या रिरिचाथे दिवश्च । प्र सिन्धुभ्यः प्र गिरिभ्यो महित्वा प्रेन्द्राग्नी विश्वा भुवनात्यन्या ॥

For the peoples in the calls of battle you two overflow with help; you overflow beyond Earth and beyond Heaven. Beyond the rivers, beyond the mountains, by your greatness, O Indra and Agni, you surpass all other worlds of becoming.

Mantra 7

आ भरतं शिक्षतं वज्रबाहू अस्माँ इन्द्राग्नी अवतं शचीभिः । इमे नु ते रश्मयः सूर्यस्य येभिः सपित्वं पितरो न आसन् ॥

Bring to us, teach us, O you two whose arms are the thunderbolt; protect us, O Indra and Agni, by your powers of effective action. These indeed are those rays of the Sun by which our Fathers became of one lineage with the divine.

Mantra 8

पुरंदरा शिक्षतं वज्रहस्तास्माँ इन्द्राग्नी अवतं भरेषु । तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः ॥

O breakers of the strongholds, O thunderbolt-handed, teach us; protect us, O Indra and Agni, in the bearable loads of struggle. And may Mitra and Varuṇa enlarge us; may Aditi, the flowing Sindhu, Earth and Heaven increase and uphold us.
