Mantra 1

विजयाय प्रार्थना। ममाग्ने वर्चो विहवेष्वस्तु वयं त्वेन्धानास्तन्वंऽपुषेम । मह्यं नमन्तां प्रदिशश्चतस्रस्त्वयाध्यक्षेण पृतना जयेम

Mine, O Agni, be splendor in the contests; we, kindling thee, would nourish our own persons. Let the four quarters bow down unto me; with thee as overseer may we conquer in the battle.

Mantra 2

अग्ने मन्युं प्रतिनुदन् परेषां त्वं नो गोपाः परि पाहि विश्वतः । अपाञ्चो यन्तु निवता दुरस्यवोऽमैषां चित्तं प्रबुधां वि नेशत्

O Agni, thrusting back the wrath of others, be thou our guardian; encompass and protect us from all sides. Let the ill-aiming go away turned backward, with heads bowed down; and do thou scatter—lead off to ruin—their mind, though waking and alert.

Mantra 3

मम देवा विहवे सन्तु सर्व इन्द्रवन्तो मरुतो विष्णुरग्निः । ममान्तरिक्षमुरुलोकमस्तु मह्यं वातः पवतां कामायास्मै

Mine, at the call, be all the Gods—Indra-attended Maruts, Vishnu, Agni. Mine be the mid-air, a wide free region; for me let Wind blow forth, to cleanse, for this desire.

Mantra 4

मह्यं यजन्तां मम यानीष्टाकूतिः सत्या मनसो मे अस्तु । एनो मा नि गां कतमच्चनाहं विश्वे देवा अभि रक्षन्तु मेह

For me let them perform worship; and mine—this purposed wish—let it be made true from my mind. Let no offence, of any sort whatever, come down upon me: let all the Gods guard me hereabout, even here.

Mantra 5

मयि देवा द्रविणमा यजन्तां मय्याशीरस्तु मयि देवहूतिः । दैवाः होतारः सनिषन्न एतदरिष्टाः स्याम तन्वाऽसुवीराः

On me let the Gods bestow wealth by worship; in me be blessing; in me be the divine invocation. The god-appointed Hotars, duly seated, (establish) this: unharmed may we be in body, rich in living sons and heroes.

Mantra 6

दैवीः षडुर्वीरुरु नः कृणोत विश्वे देवास इह मादयध्वम्। मा नो विददभिभा मो अशस्तिर्मा नो विदद् वृजिना द्वेष्या या

Make for us the six divine broad spaces, wide and free; all ye Gods, rejoice ye here. Let no oppression find us; nor, indeed, let curse or evil fame; let not that hateful mischief, born of enmity, come upon us.

Mantra 7

तिस्रो देवीर्महि नः शर्म यछत प्रजायै नस्तन्वे३यच्च पुष्टम्। मा हास्महि प्रजया मा तनूभिर्मा रधाम द्विषते सोम राजन्

Three Goddesses—grant us mighty shelter, for our progeny, for our body, and what is nourishment besides. Let us not be bereft of offspring, nor of our persons; let us not be delivered over to the hater, O Soma, King.

Mantra 8

उरुव्यचा नो महिषः शर्म यछत्वस्मिन् हवे पुरुहूतः पुरुक्षु। स नः प्रजायै हर्यश्व मृडेन्द्र मा नो रीरिषो मा परा दाः

May the wide-pervading mighty Bull vouchsafe us shelter, at this our call, the Much-invoked, the Much-aiding. Be gracious unto our progeny, O Indra of tawny steeds; harm us not, nor give us over unto destruction.

Mantra 9

धाता विधाता भुवनस्य यस्पतिर्देवः सविताभिमातिषाहः । आदित्या रुद्रा अश्विनोभा देवाः पान्तु यजमानं निरृथात्

May Dhātar and Vidhātar—Savitar the God, the Lord of the world, the Overcomer of hostile onsets—may the Ādityas, the Rudras, and both the Aśvins, the Gods, protect the sacrificer from calamity.

Mantra 10

ये नः सपत्ना अप ते भवन्त्विन्द्राग्निभ्यामव बाधामह एनान्। आदित्या रुद्रा उपरिस्पृशो न उग्रं चेत्तारमधिराजमक्रत

Let those who are our rivals become driven away: by Indra and Agni we thrust these down and off. The Ādityas and the Rudras, overarching, have for us established a fierce controller, a paramount king.

Mantra 11

अर्वाञ्चमिन्द्रममुतो हवामहे यो गोजिद् धनजिदश्वजिद् यः । इमं नो यज्ञं विहवे शृणोत्वस्माकमभूर्हर्यश्व मेदी

Hitherward from yonder do we invoke Indra, who winneth kine, who winneth wealth, who winneth steeds. Let him, at our call, hear this our sacrifice: be ours, O tawny-steeded, gracious helper.
