सुरक्षा। अग्निं ते वसुवन्तमृच्छन्तु ।ये माघायवः प्राच्या दिशोऽभिदासात्
In sure protection: let those who would do mischief, assailing thee from the eastern quarter, betake them to Agni, the wealthy one.

To Vāyu, rich in mid-air might, let them betake them—those gain-seeking plotters—from this quarter’s act of hostile assault.

सोमं ते रुद्रवन्तमृछन्तु । ये माघायवो दक्षिणाया दिशोऽभिदासात्
To Soma, Rudra-attended, let them betake them—those gain-seeking plotters—from the southern quarter’s act of hostile assault.

To thee may they resort—Viśvakarman attended by the Seven Seers—against those Māghāyus who press assault from the northern quarter.

To thee may they resort—Indra with the Maruts—against those Māghāyus who assail from this quarter.

प्रजापतिं ते प्रजननवन्तमृच्छन्तु । ये माघायवो ध्रुवाया दिशोऽभिदासात्
To thee may they resort—Prajāpati rich in generative might—against those Māghāyus who assail from the steadfast quarter.
Mantra 10
बृहस्पतिं ते विश्वदेववन्तमृच्छन्तु । ये माघायव ऊर्ध्वाया दिशोऽभिदासात्
To thee may they resort—Bṛhaspati attended by all the Gods—against those Māghāyus who assail from the upward quarter.
It creates a protective perimeter by direction: any hostile approach or sorcery coming from a quarter is redirected into the control of that quarter’s invoked power, so it cannot strike the intended person or house.
The hymn treats space as governed: each direction is a domain with a guardian. Naming the quarter and its deity ritualizes a ‘handover’ of the attacker, breaking their access to the beneficiary.
The cited verses do not require substances; it primarily works through recitation and spatial orientation. In practice, people may add simple supports like a household fire (Agni) or purification water, but they are optional.
