Daśaratha’s grief, karmic reflection, and the remembered ‘śabdavedhī’ misdeed
दुःखितस्य च दीनस्य मम शोकातुरस्य च।लक्षयामास हृदये चिन्तां मुनिसुतस्तदा।।2.63.50।।
duḥkhitasya ca dīnasya mama śokāturasya ca |
lakṣayāmāsa hṛdaye cintāṃ munisutas tadā ||2.63.50||
Da bemerkte der Sohn des Asketen die Qual in meinem Herzen, als er mich verzweifelt, elend und von Kummer überwältigt sah.
The son of the ascetic noticed my anguish and seeing me thus distressed, wretched and afflicted with sorrow, said:
It foregrounds compassion and moral perception: recognizing another’s suffering is a prerequisite for humane, dharmic response.
Daśaratha recalls that Śravaṇa, even while wounded, read the king’s inner distress and prepared to speak.
