In thee they blend resolve in abundance, when these effusions come to be thrice, yea twice again. Sweeter than sweet, send forth with sweetness: exhilarate, and with honey—honeyed—do thou join battle against them.
In you they mix resolve (kratu) abundantly, when these effusions/pressings (ūmāḥ) occur thrice, and twice again. Sweeter than sweet, send forth with sweetness: exhilarate, and with honey—honeyed—join battle against them.
Resolve is ‘blended’ like a drink: intention (kratu) is compounded and intensified through repeated arousal cycles (pressings). Honey symbolizes attractive potency—winning strength that is not merely bitter aggression but compelling, confidence-giving sweetness.
Sustained resolve is cultivated through repeated practice cycles; power that carries ‘sweetness’—coherence, morale, meaning—often outlasts brute force.
To intensify resolve (kratu), generate exhilaration, and empower successful combat through honeyed potency.

Sayana takes ‘kratu’ as effective will/ritual-counsel infused into the addressed power (victorious deity/warrior). ‘ūmāḥ’ is explained as repeated pressings/flows (threefold rite-pattern), hence the numerical emphasis. ‘madhu’ and ‘svādu’ are not mere taste but ‘mādhurya’ as auspicious potency that strengthens and gladdens for combat; honey functions as a consecratory enhancer.
Angirasa-leaning Atharvanic composer (variable attribution)
Jayakarma that blends paustika strengthening (madhu, sweetness) with martial efficacy; crafting morale and resolve as ritual ‘mixture’.
Shows a distinct AV strategy: victory is fed by auspicious nourishment (madhu) and repeated energizing cycles, not only by terror and binding.
Indraic Warrior-Power energized by Madhu and Madá
Channels atmospheric vigor and victorious momentum; turns sacramental sweetness into force that overcomes opposition.
Strengthening (balya) aspect: supports morale, stamina, and cohesion.
Protects through heightened resolve and energized courage; deters opponents by confident readiness.
Mixed pādas (some ~12 syllables jagatī-like) with triṣṭubh cadence residues; typical AV flexibility.
Repetitions (dvir…trir…) and sweet-compounds stretch meters; oral performance prioritizes semantic beats (kratu, ūmāḥ, madhu).
Energizing, rolling; the sweet-word repetitions create a ‘building’ refrain-like effect.
Induces uplift and confident warmth; ‘sweetness’ reframes battle as empowered clarity rather than mere rage.
Prepare a sweetened draught (honey in water/milk) or honeyed unguent as the ‘svādu/madhu’ carrier.
Recite the mantra over the mixture, emphasizing the repeated ‘pressings’ (tríḥ/dvíḥ) by threefold stirring or threefold offering-gesture.
Administer a sip to the patron/warrior or anoint mouth/chest/weapon to ‘blend kratu’.
Facing the enemy-direction, conclude with a forward thrust/advance gesture on ‘abhi yodhīḥ’.
Kauśika Sūtra: victory-strengthening rites employing madhu/āsava-like sweetening (general application; exact sūtra-number varies by edition).
Atharvan priest as consecrator of ingestible potency: he ‘mixes’ kratu into the patron via honeyed medium and directs the martial deployment.
Before a contest, give a small amount of honey (or honey-water) to the patron, reciting the verse; optionally repeat in sets of 2 and 3 to mirror dvir/trir.
Morning before undertaking; also before debate/exam as non-violent ‘battle’.
Householder or Atharvanic practitioner administers the madhu as an anupāna-like carrier of the mantra.
Use as a pre-performance ritual with a teaspoon of honey (if medically appropriate) and focused intention-setting.
madhu (honey/mead as auspicious strengthening agent); ūmāḥ (pressings/effusions—soma-analogue flows)
Honey sacralizes aggression into purposeful, cohesive action; repeated ‘pressings’ symbolize iterative practice and the compounding of resolve.
Not a disease charm per se; strengthening for debility, low morale, exhaustion; supportive to recovery where courage/drive is needed.
Paustika stimulation: honeyed nourishment + repeated energization cycles; increases perceived ojas and kratu (will).
Madhu is yogavāhī and balya in many later Ayurvedic frames; supports kapha in moderation and helps stabilize vāta when used appropriately; ‘kratu’ parallels sattva-strengthening.
Sports/competition priming; motivational conditioning; using small carbohydrate/ritual drink as a performance cue (within health limits).
Chanter/patron (self-side) preparing for contest.
Blend and amplify resolve; generate exhilaration; empower victory through honeyed potency.
Dravya-supported empowerment: madhu as carrier + repetitive charging (dvir/trir) + verbal ‘sweetening’ to align will and force.
Demoralization, hesitation, loss of cohesion under pressure.
Strength, success, social standing via victory; auspicious ‘madhu’ fortune.
Kratu-sādhana: clarify intention, then ‘blend’ it with energizing breath and sweetness (gratitude/meaning).
Maṇipūra (will) and Anāhata (sweetness/cohesion)
3 rounds energizing breath (slightly faster), then 2 rounds slow calming breath—mirroring trir/dvir pattern.
Golden honey light filling the torso; resolve thickening like nectar; directed as a beam toward the goal.
Uplifted, confident, integrated (not scattered).
Chant, sip a small sweet (or imagine sweetness), then commit to one clear action; avoid over-stimulation—end with a steady exhale.
Let udātta peaks land on krátuṃ, ū́māḥ, svā́doḥ, mádhu; treat the sweet-word repetitions as a refrain-like intensifier.
Keep counting-phrases (dvir…trir…) clearly separated; they function as ritual ‘measures’.
Bright, uplifted, confident; not harsh.
If using madhu as carrier, recite once over the honey, then consume mindfully; sweetness is part of the operative symbolism.
12 times
Preparing for an exam, interview, debate, athletic event, or any ‘battle’ requiring resolve and morale.
10–30 minutes before performance; also during training to anchor intention.
Sharper resolve (kratu), elevated confidence (madá), cohesive energy with less bitterness.
If diabetic or medically restricted, do not ingest honey; use visualization instead. Avoid using heightened arousal to justify aggression.
Honey (madhu) is the material correlate of ‘sweetness’ as auspicious force: it is ingested/anointed to embody the mantra’s promise of intensified kratu and madá. The rite makes taste a technology of power-transfer.
The priest mediates access to ‘kratu’ through consecrated substances; martial success is framed as dependent on Atharvanic expertise. This reinforces priestly authority over warfare outcomes.
The semantic field (kratu, madhu, madá) is RV-shared, but the AV leans toward procedural numeration (tríḥ/dvíḥ) and practical infusion (‘pṛñcanti’) consistent with domestic-ritual pragmatics.
Gopatha’s emphasis on correct performance aligns with the verse’s internal ritual logic: repeated actions (threefold/twofold) and a consecrated carrier (madhu) are the means by which mantra-power becomes effective will.
