अयमु वां पुरुतमो रयीयञ्छश्वत्तममवसे जोहवीति । सजोषाविन्द्रावरुणा मरुद्भिर्दिवा पृथिव्या शृणुतं हवं मे ॥
ayám u vāṃ purutámo rayīyáñ chaśvattamáṃ ávase johavīti | sajóṣāv indrāvaruṇā marúdbhir divā́ pṛthivyā́ śṛṇutaṃ hávaṃ me ||
This one calls to you two most abundantly for riches that endure, for help that lasts. Together with the Maruts, O Indra–Varuṇa, from Heaven and from Earth, hear my call.
The seer (ayam) concentrates his invocation repeatedly (johavīti) for enduring plenitude (rayīyañ… chaśvattamam)—not transient gains but stable inner wealth: light, strength, and right joy. Indra–Varuṇa are invoked ‘together’ (sajoṣā) with the Maruts, the dynamic life-powers that carry and enforce the higher impulsions. ‘From Heaven and from Earth’ means: let the response descend from the higher mind (diva) and be effectuated in the embodied nature (pṛthivyā).
Lasting growth requires not only illumination and law (Indra–Varuṇa) but also the consenting life-energies (Maruts) so that what is seen above becomes lived below.
Prayer for enduring plenitude, Alliance of force and law, Collective divine hearing
Invocation as sustained tapas: the repeated call (johavīti) is central to Viśvāmitra’s method—persistence until the gods answer in both planes.
Shows the yogic insistence on enduring attainment and the need for a complete descent (diva → pṛthivī) with life-forces aligned.
Indra opens the paths and releases; Varuṇa stabilizes in law and wideness; Maruts energize, purify, and make the descent effective in the vital field.
Persistent invocation awakens a coordinated response: clear decision (Indra), self-governed truth (Varuṇa), and vigorous execution (Maruts).
Soma rite atmosphere: invoking Indra with Maruts; here coupled with Varuṇa, stressing force guided by law; used in laud/invocation segments.

4 × ~11
Supplicatory yet strong; repetition-friendly due to clear caesuras.
Builds a steady ‘calling’ momentum; ends by anchoring the prayer into both planes (heaven/earth).
Soma rite atmosphere: invoking Indra with Maruts; here coupled with Varuṇa, stressing force guided by law; used in laud/invocation segments.
Soma-related or Indra invocations seeking enduring prosperity and protection; also in collective rites calling Marut energy.
Repeated calling during offerings; invoking Maruts to ‘carry’ the oblation/aspiration upward and bring force downward.
Mantra for sustained practice: use at the start of long-term disciplines (study, healing, recovery) to ask for lasting help and integrated energy.
rāyīyán from rayí ‘wealth/plenitude’ (inner fullness). johavīti: intensive/frequentative of √hū ‘call, invoke’. ava ‘help’ relates to protection/guarding. √śru ‘hear’ is PIE *ḱleu- (Greek klúō, English ‘listen’ via different development; clearer in ‘loud’).
rays of plenitude (rayi), enduring aid (śaśvat), harmonised powers (sajóṣa)
Varuṇa’s response implies re-establishing ṛta in the embodied field.
‘Lasting’ (chaśvattamam) points to satya as stable being behind experiences.
Integration of higher and lower worlds through coordinated divine forces.
Integral yoga psychology: realization must be embodied; prāṇa must consent (Maruts).
Storm = prāṇic purification; sky = higher mind; earth = body-nature; their linkage = descent into life.
Enduring plenitude: call for stable light and lawful strength, then invite prāṇic energies to cooperate.
maṇipūra (effective will) + anāhata (harmonized force)
12 rounds of slightly emphatic exhale (to enlist Maruts), then settle into slow nasal breathing while repeating ‘śṛṇutaṃ havam me’.
Integrated descent—quiet mind with energized life-force.
Invoke for what endures; feel the answer descending into the breath and limbs; act immediately on one truthful impulse as ‘earth-response’.
Tri-svara; emphasize udatta on ‘indrāvaruṇā’ and ‘śṛṇutaṃ’; keep ‘divā pṛthivyā’ as a measured, descending cadence.
Make ‘johavīti’ slightly iterative in feel; pause after ‘avase’ to mark ‘lasting help’.
purutamo: retroflex ṭ not present—keep dental t; lengthen ‘tamo’ lightly, rayīyañ: nasalize ‘ñ’ at end, chaśvattamam: clear ‘śva’ cluster, marudbhiḥ: aspirated bh, pṛthivyā: vocalic ṛ, ‘thiv’ crisp
Invocatory, steady, slightly wind-energized on ‘marudbhiḥ’.
