Start ReadingThe Garuda Purana is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas, a foundational text of the Vaishnava tradition. Narrated by Lord Vishnu to Garuda, it is best known for its vivid descriptions of the afterlife, the journey of the soul after death, and the rites for the departed. Beyond its famous Preta Kalpa, it encompasses creation theology, dharma, vratas, yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, gemology, and the path to final liberation through devotion to Narayana.
The Garuda Purana is structured across three Kandas, each addressing a distinct domain of sacred knowledge.

The Garuda Purana is traditionally divided into three Kandas.
Each Kanda covers a distinct domain of dharma, afterlife, and liberation.

The Section on Brahman
Khanda 1 mở đầu Garuḍa Purāṇa bằng cách xác lập trục thần học cốt lõi: Nārāyaṇa (Hari/Vāsudeva) là Phạm Thiên Tối Thượng (Brahman), nguồn gốc của sáng tạo, bảo tồn và hủy diệt vũ trụ.

The Section on the Departed

Means to Liberation
Khanda 3 mở đầu phần Preta-kalpa hướng về giải thoát bằng cách đặt nền tảng thần học và phương pháp diễn giải kinh điển: tôn vinh Nārāyaṇa (Viṣṇu) là nơi nương tựa tối hậu, đối tượng thờ phụng và ý hướng rốt ráo của thánh điển.
