Varāha
Śuddhi (purity of time, body, and intent) and fidelity to vidhi are vehicles for grace; devotion is enacted through careful practice.
Begin before sunrise, maintain cleanliness and mental steadiness, follow the earlier steps without improvisation, and complete worship with focused intention.
On Aṣṭamī at pure dawn, worship Hari/Govinda with disciplined intent according to the previously stated procedure and proper injunctions.
Careful adherence to vidhi at the prescribed time yields vrata-phala; laxity/impurity at dawn-Aṣṭamī undermines merit and result.
Putra-prāpti; auspiciousness through Govinda’s grace when worship is done with prayatna and śuddhi.
Direct: Govinda/Hari worship on Aṣṭamī evokes Kṛṣṇa as cowherd-lord; Aṣṭamī also resonates with Janmāṣṭamī themes.
Varāha Purāṇa 63.2–63.3: Bhādrapada kṛṣṇa Aṣṭamī fast; Ṣaṣṭhī saṅkalpa and Saptamī arcana as prerequisites
It reflects Purāṇic codification of domestic/temple worship routines tied to the lunar calendar, illustrating how ritual time (tithi) and procedural continuity (“earlier procedure”) structure religious practice in the Sanskrit textual tradition.
No geographic location is named in this verse; it is primarily calendrical and procedural (dawn worship on Aṣṭamī).
The instruction emphasizes disciplined conduct (prayataḥ) and adherence to established procedure (vidhāna), presenting ritual action as grounded in self-restraint and textual/ritual norms.
