Brahmavidya Upanishad 17: Verse 17

तेनेदं निष्कलं विद्यात् क्षीरात् सर्पिर्यथा तथा । कारणेनात्मना युक्तः प्राणायामैश्च पञ्चभिः ॥ चतुष्कला समायुक्तो भ्राम्यते च हृदिस्थितः । गोलकस्तु यदा देहे क्षीरदण्डेन वा हतः ॥ एतस्मिन् वसते शीघ्रम् अविश्रान्तं महाखगः । यावन्निश्वसितो जीवस् तावन्निष्कलतां गतः ॥१७-१९॥

tenedaṃ niṣkalaṃ vidyāt kṣīrāt sarpir yathā tathā | kāraṇenātmanā yuktaḥ prāṇāyāmaiś ca pañcabhiḥ || catuṣkalā samāyukto bhrāmyate ca hṛdisthitaḥ | golakas tu yadā dehe kṣīradaṇḍena vā hataḥ || etasmin vasate śīghram aviśrāntaṃ mahākhagaḥ | yāvan niśvasito jīvas tāvan niṣkalatāṃ gataḥ ||17–19||

Translation

ఆ విధానంతో ఈ ఆత్మతత్త్వాన్ని నిష్కలమని తెలుసుకోవాలి; పాలు నుండి నెయ్యి లభించునట్లు. కారణాత్మతో యుక్తుడై, ఐదు ప్రాణాయామాలతో కూడి, నాలుగు కలలతో సమన్వితుడై, హృదయంలో స్థితుడై సంచరిస్తాడు. దేహంలోని ‘గోలక’ము క్షీరదండంతో తాకబడినప్పుడు, అక్కడ మహాఖగుడు శీఘ్రంగా, అవిశ్రాంతంగా నివసిస్తాడు; జీవుడు శ్వసించు కాలమంతా అతడు నిష్కలత్వంలో స్థితుడవుతాడు॥১৭॥

Academic Translation

By that (method) one should know this (Self) as partless, as ghee (is obtained) from milk. United with the causal Self and with the five prāṇāyāmas, endowed with four ‘parts’, it moves about while situated in the heart. But when the ‘sphere’ in the body is struck by the milk-stick, the great bird dwells there swiftly, unceasingly; as long as the jīva breathes, so long it has attained partlessness.
