Bhikshuka Upanishad 4: Verse 4

अथ हंसा नाम ग्रामे एकरात्रं नगरे पञ्चरात्रं क्षेत्रे सप्तरात्रं तदुपरि न वसेयुः । गोमूत्रगोमयाहारिणो नित्यं चान्द्रायणपरायणा योगमार्गे मोक्षमेव प्रार्थयन्ते॥४॥

IAST Transliteration

atha haṁsā nāma grāme eka-rātraṁ nagare pañca-rātraṁ kṣetre sapta-rātraṁ tad-upari na vaseyuḥ | go-mūtra-go-mayāhāriṇo nityaṁ cāndrāyaṇa-parāyaṇā yoga-mārge mokṣam eva prārthayante ||4||

Translation

హంసులు అనగా గ్రామంలో ఒక రాత్రి, నగరంలో ఐదు రాత్రులు, పుణ్యక్షేత్రంలో ఏడు రాత్రులు నివసిస్తారు; దానికన్నా ఎక్కువ ఉండరాదు. వారు గోమూత్ర-గోమయాహారులు, నిత్యం చాంద్రాయణ వ్రతపరాయణులు అయి యోగమార్గంలో మోక్షాన్నే కోరుతారు॥४॥

Academic Translation

Now, those called Haṁsas: in a village (they stay) one night, in a city five nights, in a sacred place seven nights; beyond that they should not dwell. Living on cow’s urine and cow-dung, and ever devoted to the Cāndrāyaṇa observance, they seek liberation alone on the path of yoga.
