Soma-yajña praise: awakening/illumination sequence that prepares the inner and outer field for the deities’ arrival and Soma enjoyment
discovery of light through awakened thought (√dhī), release of hidden rays (go) from enclosure (ūrva), descent/flow of higher energies (āpaḥ) from heaven
Dawns are ṛta’s visible rhythm; their regular rising symbolizes lawful ascent in sādhanā.
Wide light corresponds to satya-illumination; flawlessness indicates truth unmixed with distortion.
Re-creation each day: dawn renews the world; psychologically, illumination renews the being.
Aurobindonian: cows as rays of knowledge; waters as higher consciousness-force descending after opening.
dawn
Dawn = awakening; wide light = expanded awareness; cave = subconscient; waters = descending inspiration/ānanda.
Invoke successive dawns of awareness; concentrate (dīdhyānāḥ) until the ‘wide light’ appears; then allow a gentle descent of calm energy (āpaḥ).
ājñā (illumination) with descent to viśuddha/anāhata (flow and expression)
At dawn: 9 slow breaths; on inhale silently ‘uru jyotiḥ’; on exhale ‘āpaḥ’—feel a cool descent from crown to heart
Awakened clarity with a descending peace-current
Practice at first light. Keep attention slightly above the brow; when thoughts open, imagine a ‘pen’ unlocking and rays streaming out; rest, letting ‘waters’ flow down the spine as quiet inspiration.
RV accents; give a gentle rising contour on ‘ucchann uṣasaḥ’ and ‘uru jyotiḥ’; soften into a flowing cadence on ‘sasrur āpaḥ’.
Mark the turning points: discovery (‘vividuḥ’) and opening (‘vi vavruḥ’); let ‘teṣām anu’ be slightly quicker to lead into the waters’ flow.
ucchan: keep ‘cch’ doubled, not ‘chan’, uṣasaḥ: retroflex ṣ, short a in -saḥ, dīdhyānāḥ: long ī and ā; aspirate dhy clearly, gavyaṃ: hard g, short a; anusvāra before y is light, pradivaḥ: keep d dental; final ḥ soft
Luminous, clear, slightly rising in the first half; cool and flowing in the last pāda.
