Sukta 3.41
अर्वाञ्चं त्वा सुखे रथे वहतामिन्द्र केशिना । घृतस्नू बर्हिरासदे ॥
arvā́ñcaṃ tvā sukhé ráthe váhatām índra keśínā | ghṛtasnū́ bárhir āsáde ||
A call for Indra to be brought near on an easy-moving chariot by the radiant ones, and to sit upon the barhis (sacrificial grass/seat) described as dripping with ghee.
The seeker invokes the Divine Mind (Indra) to descend swiftly and gladly into the prepared inner field. The “easy chariot” is the rightly ordered movement of life-force and thought that can carry higher illumination without strain. The “radiant ones” are the powers of luminous perception that escort the descent. The barhis “dripping with ghṛta” is the inner seat made ready by clarified understanding—an offering-field saturated with luminous discernment—so Indra can take his station and act.
Higher illumination comes when the inner instrument is harmonized (easy chariot) and the consciousness is prepared as a luminous seat (ghṛta-barhis). Then the descending power can be sustained and made effective in action.
Divine arrival, Chariot symbolism, Luminous essence (ghṛta), Soma-ritual
Gāthina/Viśvāmitra corpus of Mandala 3; hymns of dynamic invocation and conquest of inner obstruction through Indra-Agni powers
Viśvāmitra embodies the tapas-driven transformation from human aspiration to seerhood; his Indra hymns stress the descent of illumined force into an actively prepared inner sacrifice.
Brings the lightning of truth, releases the hidden waters and rays, establishes the victorious order of consciousness against obstruction.
Illuminated Intelligence and victorious Will in the mind—capacity to break limiting formations and pour clarity into thought and action.
Indra-invocation within Soma-yajña sequences (general Indra stotra usage)

44
4 pādas × ~11 syllables (with possible Vedic resolution/caesura)
Forward-driving, martial yet controlled cadence suited to invocation and descent.
Builds a felt ‘approach’ of power—invokes readiness, then a settling/enthronement in the final cadence.
Arrival formula: Indra is brought by the two haris to the barhis; typical Soma-yajña invitation imagery
During Soma pressing/offerings; invitatory context for Indra’s arrival and seating
Calling, offering, and ‘seating’ the deity on barhis; coordinating chant with offering intention
Use as a pre-meditation invocation: prepare the seat (posture + clarity), invite illumined mind to descend and stabilize.
sukha: su- ‘good’ + kha ‘space/axle-hole’ → ‘easy-going, comfortable’; symbolically ‘good passage’. √vah ‘carry’ (PIE *weǵh-). keśin ‘maned’ (horse epithet; also ‘ray-bearing’ in symbolic reading). ghṛta ‘clarified butter’ from √ghṛ ‘shine/sprinkle’ in Vedic semantic aura; often a symbol of clarified luminous essence. snū ‘to ooze, drip’ (descriptive compound).
unobstructed movement of force (sukha as good passage), descent onto the widened seat (barhis as bṛhat foundation)
The ‘easy chariot’ suggests movement aligned with ṛta—rightly ordered thought and life-force enabling divine descent.
Ghṛta as truth-clarity: the seat is saturated with ‘truth-light’ so the power can abide.
Descent and establishment of luminous powers into the formed world (spirit taking seat in matter).
Proto-Vedāntic/Integral (Aurobindonian): gods as powers of consciousness, sacrifice as inner transformation.
Chariot = dynamic psycho-physical vehicle; ghṛta = clarified luminous discernment; barhis = receptive inner ground; radiant bearers = luminous faculties escorting descent.
Invite and stabilize ‘Indra’—the illumined mind—into the prepared inner seat of clarity.
ājñā (brow)
Moderate nāḍī-śodhana for 6–12 rounds, then a steady inhale on ‘arvāñcaṃ’ and long exhale to ‘āsade’.
Receptive descent (āvaraṇa-thinning) leading to settled luminous attention.
1) Sit as barhis: spine steady, mind clarified. 2) Feel the ‘easy chariot’: smooth breath + calm vital. 3) On repetition, sense a bright force taking its seat behind the forehead and governing thought.
Vedic svaras per Śākala tradition: maintain udatta peaks on invocatory verbs (e.g., vahatām/āsade) with careful handling of enclitics; exact pattern requires pada-svara marking.
Keep clear stress on: arvāñcaṃ | su-khe | rathe | vahatām | indra | ghṛta-snū | barhiḥ | āsade. Avoid flattening sandhi around ghṛtasnū.
arvāñcam: nasalized ‘ñc’ cluster, not ‘nch’, su-khe: audible ‘kh’ aspirate, vahatām: dental ‘t’, long ‘ā’, keśinā: long ī; ś as palatal, ghṛta: vocalic ‘ṛ’ (tight tongue curl), not ‘gri’, barhiḥ: final visarga lightly released before pause
Bright, steady, inviting; end with a settling tone on āsade.
