All auspicious powers are set on your chariots, O Maruts, as if in rivalry of strength. On your shoulders on the forward paths are biting edges; your axle and wheels roll together in perfect timing.
The ‘chariots’ are the vehicles of the Marut energies—organized movements of life-force carrying auspicious capacities (bhadrā). Their ‘rivalry’ is not discord but a competitive intensification that drives progress. The ‘biting edges’ on the shoulders signify keen discriminative force that cuts through obstruction on the forward path (prapatha). The perfectly timed axle and wheels image the harmonized rhythm of faculties—will, breath, mind, and action—moving together under Ṛta, so the journey of consciousness proceeds without inner friction.
Progress becomes swift and safe when our powers are organized, sharpened by discernment, and synchronized by an inner rhythm of right timing.
divine vehicles, coordinated motion, auspicious powers, rhythmic order
Agastya’s style often uses precise kinetic imagery (chariot, wheels) to describe disciplined movement of inner forces toward illumination.
He teaches that spiritual force must be coordinated—power without timing becomes turbulence; power under rhythm becomes a chariot of ascent.
Drivers of atmospheric motion; companions of Indra who speed the cosmic advance and break obstruction.
Coordinated prāṇa-shakti that sharpens discernment and synchronizes action with inner law.
Marut stanzas in Indra-Marut liturgy; invoked for successful movement of the rite and victory over obstacles.

Rolling, wheel-like movement; strong caesura supports the sense of synchronized turning.
Induces a feeling of forward motion and coordinated breath; helpful for overcoming lethargy.
Praise of the Marut chariots/weapons as symbols of coordinated force; supports rites seeking right timing (samaya) and effective forward movement on the path.
During sequences emphasizing speed, force, and right execution of offerings.
Chant as praise while visualizing the gods’ chariots arriving; inwardly, aligning faculties to one rhythm.
Use before starting a complex project to synchronize team/inner faculties; also for athletes or performers as a ‘timing’ mantra (with reverence).
ratha ‘chariot’ as vehicle of divine force; in inner reading, organized movement of energies. spṛdh ‘rivalry’ indicates intensification through mutual incitement—forces sharpening each other. khād ‘bite’ used for cutting edges: storm-weapons as discriminative incisiveness. √vṛt ‘turn’ (PIE *wert- ‘turn’): cosmic turning/order; samaya ‘together/right time’ implies ṛta as rhythmic coordination.
Ṛta as rhythm and coordination (samaya), discernment as cutting power, harmonized energies
Samayā—perfect timing—is a direct image of Ṛta in motion.
Bhadrā powers are those that serve the true good, not egoic impulse.
Cosmic movement as ordered turning (cakra) around a stable axis (akṣa).
Vedic dynamism: being as a rhythmic movement around an inner axis; later echoes in yogic nāḍī-axis imagery.
Storm vehicle = mobilized life-force; axle = central stillness; wheels = cyclic activity; blades = discrimination cutting resistance.
Establish the ‘axle’ (spinal stillness) and let thoughts/actions become ‘wheels’ turning in harmony around it.
suṣumṇā axis (symbolic); ajñā for timing/discernment
Synchronize inhale/exhale with a gentle internal count (e.g., 6-6) while chanting mentally, feeling rhythmic rolling.
Dynamic equilibrium—moving without losing center.
Before action, pause and feel the inner axis; chant once slowly to locate the center, then 3–7 times moderately to set timing; act immediately after in the same rhythm.
Tri-svara; maintain clear tonal distinction on compound words (mithaspṛdhyā-iva) without flattening accents.
Let the rhythm ‘roll’—avoid abrupt stops at pāda ends; keep samayā emphasized by steadier tone.
viśvāni: śv cluster clear, mithaspṛdhyāiva: articulate ṛ (vocalic r) in spṛdh, khādayaḥ: long ā; aspirate kh, cakrā: long ā, vāvṛte: vāv- with long ā; retroflex ṛ
Bright, rhythmic, lightly percussive articulation.
