ఈ సంక్షిప్త రక్షా-సూక్తం పఠించే వ్యక్తి చుట్టూ దివ్యమైన “కవచం” (వర్మన్)ను స్థాపించి, మనుష్యుల వల్ల కలిగే హింసను—ముఖ్యంగా అకాలమరణం సమీపించడాన్ని—దూరం చేస్తుంది. అనేక దేవతలను రక్షణ వలయంగా సమీకరిస్తూ, మృత్యువుకు ఎదురుగా వ్యక్తిని చుట్టుముట్టి కాపాడే అప్రమత్త రక్షకుడిగా పూషన్ను ప్రత్యేకంగా పేర్కొంటుంది. ద్యావా–పృథివీ, దినం, సూర్యుడు, సర్వదేవతలు వంటి విశ్వవ్యాప్త రక్షణలను పొరలుగా నిలిపి, శత్రు శక్తులు—‘ప్రతీచికా’ (ఎదురుగా తిరిగి వచ్చే/ప్రతిగా వచ్చే దుష్టం) సహా—లబ్ధిదారుని చేరలేకుండా చేయడమే ఈ సూక్త శక్తి.

सुरक्षा। अप॒ न्यधुः॒ पौरु॑षेयं व॒धं यमि॑न्द्रा॒ग्नी धा॒ता स॑वि॒ता बृह॒स्पतिः॑ । सोमो॒ राजा॒ वरु॑णो अ॒श्विना॑ य॒मः पू॒षास्मान् परि॑ पातु मृ॒त्योः
దృఢమైన రక్ష. మనుష్యకృతమైన వధఘాతాన్ని వారు దూరం తోసివేశారు—ఇంద్రుడు అగ్నితో, ధాతా, సవితా, బృహస్పతి; రాజా సోముడు, వరుణుడు, అశ్వినులు, యముడు—పూషన్ మమ్మల్ని మరణం నుండి చుట్టూరా కాపాడుగాక.

या॑नि॑ च॒कार॒ भुव॑नस्य॒ यस्पतिः॑ प्र॒जाप॑तिर्मात॒रिश्वा॑ प्र॒जाभ्यः॑ । प्र॒दिशो॒ यानि॑ वस॒ते दिश॑श्च॒ तानि॑ मे॒ वर्मा॑णि बहु॒लानि॑ सन्तु
ప్రజల కోసం ఆయన చేసిన కవచాలు—భువనాధిపతి ప్రజాపతి, మాతరిశ్వన్ ద్వారా—ముందు దిశల్లోను, సమస్త దిశల్లోను నివసించేవి; అవన్నీ నాకు అనేకముగా, సమృద్ధిగా రక్షాకవచాలుగా ఉండుగాక.

यत् ते त॒नूष्वन॑ह्यन्त दे॒वा द्युरा॑जयो दे॒हिनः॑ । इन्द्रो॒ यच्चक्रे वर्म॒ तद॒स्मान् पा॑तु वि॒श्वतः॑
దేహధారీ! ఆకాశాధిపతులైన దేవులు నీ దేహాలపై బిగిగా బంధించిన ఆ కవచమూ, ఇంద్రుడు నిర్మించిన ఆ వర్మమూ—అదే మమ్మల్ని అన్ని దిక్కుల నుండీ రక్షించుగాక.

वर्म॑ मे॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी वर्माह॒र्वर्म॒ सूर्यः॑ । वर्म॑ मे॒ विश्वे॑ दे॒वाः क्र॒न् मा मा प्राप॑त् प्रतीचि॒का
ద్యావా-పృథివీ నా వర్మమగుగాక; పగలు వర్మమగుగాక, సూర్యుడు వర్మమగుగాక. సమస్త దేవులు నిర్మించిన వర్మం నాదగుగాక; ఎదురుగా వచ్చి తాకే అనిష్టం నన్ను చేరనీయక—లేదు, నాపై దాడి చేయనీయక.
It is used to establish a protective ‘armor’ around a person—repelling human-caused harm, blocking hostile forces, and especially guarding against the approach of untimely death.
Pūṣan is the guardian of paths and safe passage; in this hymn he is asked to encircle the person and keep Death from gaining access, acting as the focused protector within the All-Gods’ collective shield.
