Rudra disse: «Foi exposta a disposição da terra em forma de lótus. Agora ouvi Bhārata, dividida em nove partes, a saber: Indra, Kaseru, Tāmravarṇa, Gabhasti, Nāgadvīpa, Saumya, Gandharva, Vāruṇa e Bhātara. Cada uma é cercada pelo oceano e mede mil yojanas. Ali existem sete montanhas de linhagem (kulaparvata): Mahendra, Malaya, Sahya, Śuktimān, Ṛkṣaparvata, Vindhya e Pāriyātra; estas são as montanhas de linhagem. Há ainda outras montanhas: Mandara, Śārada, Ardura, Kola, Kolāhala, Asura, Maināka, Vaidyuta, Vārāndha, Mapāṇḍura, Tuṅgaprastha, Kṛṣṇagiri, Jayanta, Raivata, Ṛṣyamūka, Gomanta, Citrakūṭa, Śrīcakora, Kūṭaśaila e Kṛtasthala; estas são montanhas menores, e as restantes são ainda menores. Em suas regiões habitam janapadas, tanto āryas quanto mlecchas. Bebem a água destes rios: Gaṅgā, Sindhu, Sarasvatī, Śatadru, Vitastā, Vipāśā, Candrabhāgā, Sarayū, Yamunā, Irāvatī, Devikā, Kuhū, Gomatī, Dhūtapāpā, Bāhudā, Dṛṣadvatī, Kauśikī, Nisvarā, Gaṇḍakī, Cakṣuṣmatī e Lohitā; estes nascem ao pé do Himavat. E Vedasmariti, Vedavatī, Sindhuparṇā, Sacandanā, Sadācārā, Rohipārā, Carmaṇvatī, Vidiśā e Vedatrayī; estes nascem do Pāriyātra.»
