Sukta 8.66
वयमेनमिदा ह्योऽपीपेमेह वज्रिणम् । तस्मा उ अद्य समना सुतं भरा नूनं भूषत श्रुते ॥
vayám enam idā́ hyò ’pīpema ihá vajríṇam | tásmā u adyá samánā sutáṃ bharā nū́naṃ bhūṣata śruté ||
Umacnialiśmy go wczoraj i dziś, tutaj, uzbrojonego w piorun; dlatego teraz, we wspólnym zgromadzeniu, przynieś mu wyciśniętą Somę: niech słuchanie, natchnione przyjęcie, będzie przyozdobione i spełnione.
We have strengthened him indeed, yesterday and today, here—the thunder-armed; therefore now in the common gathering bring the pressed Soma to him; let the hearing be adorned.
The practitioners affirm that Indra is strengthened by continuous offering and remembrance (yesterday and today): sustained practice builds the channel for illumination. In the ‘common gathering’ (samanā)—the harmonized assembly of inner parts, or the collective sādhana-community—the refined delight (suta Soma) must be brought to the illumined Mind so it may act. ‘Śrute’ (to hearing/what is heard) points to inspired receptivity: the inner ear that can receive truth. The mantra asks that this receptivity be ‘adorned’ (bhūṣata): purified, made fit, and fulfilled.
Spiritual power grows by continuity, not sporadic effort; and the fruit of practice depends on refined receptivity—the capacity to truly hear and receive insight.
Communal invocation, Soma offering, Inner hearing (śruti)
The seer emphasizes a practical yogic law: Indra’s force is ‘fed’ by repeated offering; and the true offering culminates in śruti—capacity to receive living truth.
Receiver of Soma; leader of victorious illumination in the human field.
Breakthrough force that responds to sustained invocation and collective harmony.
Soma offering invitation and strengthening of Indra

4 pādas
Temporal insistence (‘yesterday/today’) followed by a communal call; ends with a soft, receptive cadence on śrute.
Builds steadiness and devotion, then opens into listening silence.
Soma offering instruction: bring sutá Soma; communal rite (samanā) and emphasis on śruti (heard inspiration/response)
In sequences emphasizing repeated libations and communal rite
Bring Soma (sutam) to Indra; adorn the rite’s ‘hearing’—auspicious receptivity/approval
Chant at the start of group meditation; then keep a minute of silence for ‘śruti’—inner hearing.
: from √pī ‘swell, be full/strong’ (intensive/causative sense) → ‘we invigorated’. : from sam- ‘together’ + nominal formation, ‘common assembly’. : from √śru ‘hear’ → śruti ‘hearing’; here dative/locative nuance ‘for the hearing’ (ritual and inner).
śruti as inner hearing and confirmation, collective formation (samanā) as shared consciousness, strengthening the god = intensifying the invoked power in the vessel
Continuity and harmony (samanā) are movements of ṛta—ordered progression.
Truth is ‘heard’ when the instrument is purified—śrute as satya-reception.
Collective formation: the many parts become one field for descent of power.
Yogic Vedism: revelation as inner hearing cultivated by disciplined offering.
Pressed juice = extracted essence; gathering = convergence of energies; hearing = subtle sense-organ of intuition.
Cultivate continuity and receptivity: feed the illumined mind with refined joy and then listen.
Viśuddha (inner hearing/śruti)
Alternate-nostril breathing (nāḍī-śodhana) 5 rounds to ‘adorn hearing’—reduce noise, increase receptivity.
Quietly alert, receptive, and unified.
Keep a daily ‘yesterday-today’ continuity: same time, same seat. After chanting, do not chase thoughts—wait for what is ‘heard’ from above the mind, brief and precise.
Not fully reconstructible; observe marked accents and keep a clear cadence at pāda ends.
Mark ‘hyaḥ…adya’ distinctly; soften and lengthen slightly on ‘śrute’ to transition into silence.
: long ī in pī, : retroflex ṇ, : short a vowels, even tone, : long ū; ṣ as retroflex fricative, : śru-te with clear ś + r conjunct
Steady, then gently softened at the close.
