Vision of the Trimūrti in Rudra, the Gautama Curse, the Manifestation of the Godāvarī, and the Niḥśvāsa-saṃhitā Account
एवमुक्ते जटाखण्डमेकं स प्रददौ शिवः । तां गृहीत्वा गतवान् सोऽपि यत्रास्ते सा तु गौर्मृता ॥ ७१.३४ ॥
evam ukte jaṭākhaṇḍam ekaṃ sa pradadau śivaḥ | tāṃ gṛhītvā gatavān so 'pi yatrāste sā tu gaur mṛtā || 71.34 ||
Apabila demikian dikatakan, Śiva mengurniakan secebis jata—sehelai gumpal rambut kusut-Nya. Setelah menerimanya, dia pun berangkat ke tempat dia berada; namun lembu itu telah mati.
Varāha (default speaker per dialogue framework; explicit speaker not indicated in the excerpt)
It preserves a Purāṇic narrative motif in which a tangible object (here, a jaṭā-fragment) functions as an etiological link within a tīrtha-oriented storyline, illustrating how places and events are connected through brief, formulaic verses.
No place-name is explicitly given in this verse; it refers only to 'the place where she was' (yatra āste). Identification requires adjacent verses in Adhyāya 71.
The verse itself is primarily narrative rather than prescriptive; implicitly, it foregrounds urgency and consequence in caretaking and response—arrival occurs, but too late to prevent loss.
