The Hunter’s Austerity and the Gaining of Durvāsas’ Favor
so 'pi vyādhas taṃ natvā śirasā. atha mahāmunim | uvāca sa kṛtārtho 'smi bhagavan darśanāt tava || 38.8 ||
Vyādha (the hunter)
It reflects a common Purāṇic narrative device where socially marginal or non-ascetic figures (here, a hunter) engage respectfully with ascetic authorities, emphasizing shared cultural norms of reverence and the literary theme of moral transformation through encounter.
No geographic site-name appears in this verse fragment; it is primarily a dialogue moment rather than a sacred-geography reference.
The verse foregrounds respectful conduct toward learned or spiritually authoritative figures (bowing, courteous address) and frames “darśana” (encounter/seeing) as a transformative cultural value.
