Gaurī’s Rebirth, Umā’s Austerities, Rudra’s Test, and the Himalayan Wedding
Varāha (default speaker framework; not explicit in the excerpt)
It preserves a Purāṇic narrative motif in which ritual space (snāna/bathing) becomes the setting for a dramatic test or conflict, reflecting how Purāṇas integrate ritual culture with mythic storytelling.
No specific toponym is stated in this verse; the bathing context suggests a riverine or tīrtha setting, but the precise location must be inferred from surrounding verses of Adhyāya 22.
Implicitly, the verse highlights vigilance regarding deceptive appearances (māyā) and the possibility of harm even within ritual contexts—an admonition framed through narrative rather than direct injunction.
