Hymn to Varāha and Pṛthivī’s Inquiry
Prelude to the Sanatkumāra Dialogue
Pūrva Bhāga · Pṛthivī-uddhāra (Earth’s appeal and recourse to Viṣṇu)
सर्वेषामेव नः कार्यं यच्च किञ्चित्प्रवर्त्तते ।। सर्वांस्तारयितुं शक्तः कि पुनस्त्वां वसुन्धरे
sarveṣām eva naḥ kāryaṃ yac ca kiñcit pravarttate || sarvāṃs tārayituṃ śaktaḥ ki punas tvāṃ vasundhare
sarveShAmeva naH kAryaM yachcha ki~nchitpravarttate || sarvAMstArayituM shaktaH ki punastvAM vasundhare
“Apa jua urusan yang timbul bagi kita semua, dia berkuasa menyelamatkan semua; apatah lagi, wahai Vasundharā, betapa lebihnya dia dapat menyelamatkanmu.”
Burdened yet being reassured
If the Lord can save all beings, why doubt his power to save Earth specifically?
The Lord’s saving power is universal (sarva-tāraṇa-śakti); the particular case (Earth) is included a fortiori.
Replace despair with trust: reason from the universal capacity of the divine to confidence in personal deliverance.
General Vaiṣṇava soteriology can be read as compatible with Kṛṣṇa-bhakti, but no explicit Mathurā/Kṛṣṇa reference.
Continuation of the refuge-seeking counsel in ch. 113 (preceding directive to approach Mādhava)
The line illustrates a common Purāṇic rhetorical structure (a fortiori argument: “if X, then how much more Y”), valuable for stylistic and discourse analysis in Sanskrit narrative.
No specific place is named; the focus is the Earth as a personified entity.
It emphasizes reliance on proven capacity and collective welfare—seeking a protector whose responsibility is framed as universal rather than narrow or partisan.
